The Sawatzky's at Fort Myers Beach

This sweet little family session at Fort Myers beach happens to be of my sister and her two boys. I adore capturing memories of my own family— especially my sweet nephews. They are also absolutely spoiled because those two made me an auntie for the first time (a title I hold dearly). This family photoshoot was a bit last minute because the next day (our planned shoot date) was to be rained out. This being said, we showed up a bit later than my typical start time when dusk had started creeping in. I did love the cooler tones, as well as the clouds in the sky, offering up a moodier cotton cand ..read more

Tony & Jess Courthouse Wedding

I took the trip to Florida again this year, given Minnesota is still in it’s winter phase—and I’m so glad I did. I had the privilege of capturing both Tony and Jessica’s family photos and courthouse marriage all in the past week. There is a separate blog for their family session, because this Fort Myers courthouse wedding needs it’s own space. I should clarify… the photos were taken around downtown Fort Myers after their intimate ceremony. I showed up (and managed to get a parking ticket —$17 if anyone wants to Venmo me?) and was greeted by the couple, their sweet son Isaiah, and a few family ..read more

Harris Family Session

The Harris Family ? There is one thing I love most about coming to Florida from Minnesota, and I’m not talking about the beach or the weather, or the fine white sand that gets EVERYWHERE, or the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, or the tan I get, or the cool shells I find, or even the fact that it’s a vacation and I get to rest…. the thing I love most is connecting with people when I’m in this beautiful atmosphere. My job as a photographer allows me to do this with just about anyone, but since I’ve been here, I’ve gotten to reconnect with friends and meet new people that are all from home—Minnes ..read more

Blake & Natalie - Proposal Photoshoot

Natalie & Blake   Blake contacted me only 3 days before his plan to propose to his fiancé Natalie at Rice Park in St. Paul, Minnesota. I was lucky and so blessed (even with the Holidays) to have the date free. When considering Rice Park, I was nervous the blue hour mixed with the orange tree lights would throw me off, but they turned out better than I’d hoped. Again, the sweetest couple. I feel so blessed that all the couples I’ve worked with have honestly been amazing. Blake was so appreciative I had the time to do this so short notice, and Natalie was just as appreciative at Blake f ..read more

This family photography session was one of the most fun and spontaneous sessions I’ve done. While in Florida for my dad’s 50th birthday, I met this amazing family at the community pool. My family and I are chatty… especially on vacation  So we struck up a conversation with them (their kids were literally the cutest things with such personality) and by the end of it, decided that I would be their family photographer for the day Later that night, we did tons of beautiful ocean family photos, and their kids cooperated… mostly (normal);) and when they didn’t, I was able to capture adorable phot ..read more

Lyndsey - Senior Photoshoot

Lyndsey came all the way from Blue Earth, Minnesota for her Senior Photoshoot. We had a blast. For Lyndsey’s senior shoot, we went downtown St. Cloud and to a gorgeous field in Maple Lake, Minnesota. The session took around 2 hours, and we got tons of great light/locations. I even snuck in a few shots with her mom to make it extra special. Ps. A good tip for the senior photographers out there would be to make sure you’re always showing your seniors (and their families if pertaining) the photos you’re taking. This excites your clients and makes them feel as beautiful as you are seeing on the b ..read more

It was late spring, but still FREEZING. Hannah, Jered, Jens, and I, made the trek up to Black Beach in Duluth, Minnesota. It was here that we photographed their epic engagement session—shortly after an incredible surprise proposal on the runway at Hannah’s fashion show back in Minneapolis. It’s safe to say for a location, Black Beach far exceeded expectation. Even if it would have been close, my expectations are always crazy high—I’m a bit of a dreamer. The black sand, horizon, huge jagged rocks, the sunset at just the right spot— all of it was incredible. The only part that wasn’t ideal, wa ..read more

Tips For In-Home Family Sessions

If you have younger kiddos, this can be one of the sweetest times to capture their unguarded, full-of-life personalities with an In-home photography session. Looking back, you’re going to miss so many things about your babies. Heck, I already miss my nephews being babies… I can’t imagine (yet) how this feels with one’s own kids. When they’re little, they’re unguarded, passionate, resilient, explorative, and ready to take on the world. Guess where allllll of that is nurtured? Yep, home. That’s why I’m passionate about these in-home family sessions. Hire a trusted photographer, because this is ..read more

Family Photos with Kids: Top Three Ways to Keep Kids Engaged at Your Next Family Photoshoot

Imagine this scenario with me for a second:  Your kids didn’t nap today. You’ve been breaking up fights over who gets the pink Paw Patrol bowl to eat their snack in, dealing with tantrums over not finding the right shoes, and once they’re found, somehow there’s still a problem because they wanted a different “one” and you have no idea what they’re talking about now. You can’t find their water cups, so you send them off on a hunt, and they don’t come back. So you go looking around your house to find they got into your bathroom drawer. Your patience is running thin, but it was hours ago. A ..read more

Kaego and Will Kauai Elopement

The sweetest couple, that we didn’t expect to bump into. There’s something about beaches and Hawaii that makes people just… want to get married :) Their plan was to elope, just the two of them. I happened to be on the beach, as Kaego and Will almost walked past me. I stopped them, and (a little nervously) asked if I could take a couple photos for them. Kaego informed me her and Will were about to elope, and had no photographer, so they’d love for me to capture a few photos. Though I didn’t photograph their actual elopement, I captured just before, as the lovely couple made their way from the ..read more
