Where alarm clocks don’t exist and people move to the sound of a gong
Well, I have just returned home from a 10-day Vipassana Meditation course.
I realised that it has been 7 years since I sat my first 10-day course in 2017 & that I was at the ripe old age of 21 years old at that time. I returned the following year (2018) for another 10-day course, and another again the year (2019) after that; my partner attended his first course that year with me.
I have sat all courses I’ve completed so far at Pomona, Sunshine Coast’s Vipassana Meditation Centre – https://rasmi.dhamma.org/index.html

Why this experience was 10 of the hardest days of my entire life, followed by some of the absolute best.
I wrote this blog back in 2017 after my first Vipassana Meditation course. I was 21 at the time. It’s taken everything within me to not go back & edit it prior to sharing it again today. Reading over my raw words from 7 years ago, and particularly working in mental health for much of these last few years, I can see and read things in my words that I didn’t see or understand within myself or understand overall at the time. And that’s why I want to keep it exactly as it was. Not polish it ..read more

In a world that subliminally tells you to hate your body, I say, at the very least, when you can’t quite love it, respect it. #bodyneutrality

The people around you steeped in body hate when you’re trying so hard to shift a lifelong focus
The message from diet culture that you don’t deserve to love your body until you’ve lost weight
The kids at school/siblings at home who teased you about your body
Being put on your 1st diet at age 8 & wondering why
The billboard on the passing bus which pr ..read more

Is there a problem with counting calories? Calorie (or Kilojoule) counting is often used by people use to try to lose or maintain a certain body weight, or follow a diet. There seem to be endless sources that encourage calorie/kilojoule counting, including:

Packaged food labels
Exercise machines that have electronic displays showing the calories burned off each minute
Restaurants menus

The fear of weight gain is a roadblock that many of our clients come up against when healing their relationship with food.
Initially, the thought of letting go of diets and rigid food rules is exciting (although a little nerve wracking). There is eagerness to learn intuitive eating skills, free up brain space and live fulfilled lives away from food and body obsession.
But there is often a niggling fear that might sound something like….
