E27n Fordson Broken Brake Pivot

I'm sad, The left side brake on the e27n has always been "grabby", and since it's such a nice summer day I thought I would dig into it and see what might be a miss. Turns out the main pivot stud is broken off at the mounting stud threads. I just got it all apart and half cleaned up. The piece is mounted in the lathe four jaw chuck, I'm going to drill and tap it for 1/2-20 to replace the missing stud. Also going to spend a little time looking for a replacement. But it looks like the... Read more ..read more

I got the old gal out from under the bank barn E27n

I'm doing some work on the underside of my bank barn style shop and needed to get the Fordson out of the way (so she wouldn't get hurt) I don't think she has been lit up and running for more than a year. Opened the fuel tap and observed fuel fill the sight bowl. Climbed up to the seat to press the clutch and give the starter switch a twist/ There was some sign of life...then nothing but the tick of the magneto impulse couple as the starter motor spun the crank. I pulled the cap off the... Read more ..read more

4610 (4000) Hydraulic Top Lid Rebuild - Broke Part

My three-point lift stopped lifting. My FEL still works as it should. I took the top lid off to rebuild the cylinder and found this broke part. I assume it has something to do with the draft. 1. Does this broke part have anything to do with the three point not working? 2. Can I just remove the broke part? I assume the draft would no longer work. 3. If this part is necessary any idea where I can get one ..read more

My 48 Ford 8N

Bought this 48 Ford 8N about 22 years ago to grade a private road I lived on. We moved to a larger parcel of land, 6.17 acres with 380’ of high bank riverfront. At first I used it to run a 6’ finish mower but that was a bit too much for it so I picked up an early 70s Kubota L260 diesel tractor to run the mower and the N does everything else, pulling a wagon, core aerator, back blade and rake, disc harrow, and any other work, like dragging cars around or pulling fallen trees over to the... Losing spark

Back to where I was before I jammed the over-run coupler. Ran the 8N, original 6V Front mount for about an hour yesterday with out problems. Thought I finally had the bugs worked out. Ran it today, starting hearing a little missing and by the time I got it home had a definite miss. Shut it off, checked fuel, plenty fuel from the carb. Checked spark. No spark at the first 3 plugs but got a bit of orange at the last plug and it actually started but was missing. Checked battery with a battery... Read more ..read more

Exhaust popping, losing power when hot

Been trying to revive an old 8N after sitting for 7 years. 6 volt, with front mount distributor. Have replaced a fair bit of parts, new gas tank, fuel line, sediment bowl, and all 3 screens. Passes fuel flow test from carb without problem. New points, condenser, distributor, square coil, and battery. Got it started and running well (new carb) and discovered that the genny was not charging so it would start running rough after about an hour when the coil started not getting enough voltage. Or... I recently saw a video on a set of tools called QuikCenter. They are used to center drill broken bolts and studs. Searching the web gets no results. Can anyone help? I would like to buy a set or a similar one. The QuikCenter set appeared to be well designed. Thanks, Knots ..read more

Repowering a Ford 1910

I have a Ford 1910 with the Shibaura 3cyl diesel. It has been trough a lot and the diesel has got to the point of being beyond repair. By me anyway. I'm looking for advice on possibly replacing the diesel with a cheap 4cyl petrol engine from a scrapped car. Has anyone seen this done or can you raise any obvious red flags for me? I have been unable to find any information on line, but may be searching for the wrong thing ..read more

Ford 9N no fire at any plug

Ford 9n with no fire. Coil is good, all parts in distributor replaced , points set to spec. Still no fire at any plug. Took distributor off running tractor and put it on this one, still no fire at any plug. Somehow it seems that the issue is upstream from the coil but can’t figure it out. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Knots ..read more
