8N 3 point lift question ....

My hydraulics need rebuilding, it struggles to lift even moderate loads and bleeds down quickly when I shut the tractor off. But when these are rebuilt, are they capable of lifting a 60" brush hog, 72" finish mower? What about a 60" blade? I'm just trying to decide if it's worth rebuilding it to do these jobs or leaving it as a 'towing implement' tractor and continue using my MF2850 for the lifting work? Any insight appreciated ..read more

Runs rough when hot

Hi, everyone, I've had a Ford 8n, has run well for years, I've accumulated about 150 hours on the present coil, points, plugs, condenser. I cleaned the points, set the ignition timing and tested, it was running great. After an hour of mowing, it lost power and was backfiring through the exhaust system. After it cooled down, I tested each cylinder, it was getting a strong spark, and it fired right up and ran without problem. The coil was bench tested and is within spec. I'm thinking... Ford 1910 Starting problems

My 1910 problems began with hard starting and a surging idle. It would have a rough idle followed by a high rev and back to a rough idle or just die. I had just began building my my shop and the tractor problems were put on the back burner, That was a year and a half ago. Shop is done and the tractor is back at the top of the to do list. I have drained the old fuel and changed the filter. I am pretty sure I have managed to purge all the air from the system. I havent done this before and... Read more ..read more

I have a 9n. I can’t get it to start. I have a good 6volt battery. A new distributor, coil, condenser, cap and rotor. 8 ohm resistor between the switch and coil. It cranks fine it acts like it wants to start with starting fluid but it won’t take off. Compression is low in all cylinders but I think it should at least start weather it runs well or not. Any ideas ..read more

Misalignment of 8N front grille to body

For most of the time that I have owned my 8N the front grille has been out of alignment with the body and has not been able to close/lock properly. I bought it in 1996 and at some point in the early years of ownership my foot slipped off the clutch after stopping while still in gear and ran into a farm gate which is probably when the problem began. Believe it or not, I didn't notice the alignment problem at that time as everything seemed okay. All these years I've been able to open and close... Read more ..read more

I have a Ford 600 Series 640 Model tractor. I believe it is a 1954/1955 Model Year. I've had it for about 3 years, changed all the fluids and converted it to a 12 volt system when I got it. The reason for the conversation, was the generator was not working and it needed a battery. The cost of a new 6 volt battery and new or rebuilt generator, was more than the cost of the 12 volt conversion. Anyway, I use this tractor occasionally to grade my driveway or use the boom pole and winch to... Read more ..read more

I am helping a friend dispose of her deceased father's garden and farming equipment. She is going through his stuff and trying to decide on what to keep, what to throw out and what can be useful to someone else to sell. Can anyone help ID this part and whether it comes from a lawn tractor, farm tractor, or ???? Jack was a Ford guy and all of his farm tractors were vintage Fords from the 50's and 60's if that is any help. This seems to be fuel tank related due to the float, but I am not...
