Hi, I am a British resident in Puglia. Really far south. I am looking to find an Italian tax lawyer who speaks English and is familiar with LGPS pensions. Since my husband died last year I have discovered that there are tax issues to be addressed and I need help. Willing to travel as far as Bari. Any suggestions welcome. With thanks ..read more

Here’s something new that happened to me this week in 34 years of living here and I never knew what a pain in the neck it would be so here's my story and a word of warning to you all just in case like me, you didn't know how precious your number plates are. So, my sister arrived on Wednesday last and on Friday we buggered off to the nearest seaside for three days. The weather forecast was the hottest ever and we found a hotel that included parking and beach umbrellas and sunbeds in the price. I parked my car in the custodial car park and never touched it again until it was time to set off on M ..read more

I wonder if anyone has managed this? I am trying to register my private car in Italy, as I am not allowed to drive a car with foreign number plates now I have residency. But I am failing to get the right documentation: the key piece I need is a tax declaration that I have either paid import duties, or that no import duties are due. How on earth do I get this document? Has anyone done this? Thank you so much ..read more

Greetings! I'm not a regular poster in the Italy forum, but it was suggested I might get the best answers here. I have an aversion to using regular taxis in Rome, based on prior experiences, and would prefer to use an 'app' where I can locate and pay for a taxi without having to pay the driver directly, etc. I've heard that there are two reasonable services that I could use - FreeNow and itTaxi. Does anyone have any experience using these services? I'm aware that the journey will cost more using these apps and that's fine. I'm also aware that there are many other ways to get around Rome - buss ..read more

Hello - maybe someone can help with some travel information. My husband and I are planning a 1 week trip to Italy in September. We will arrive in Rome from the US. What's the most convenient (or scenic) way to get to Melissa or Palermo from FCO? Train, plane or automobile? Any suggestions on where to go or stay, and what to see and do? Thank you so much ..read more

Hello, I've determined that I'm eligible to apply for Italian citizenship by descent. I'm planning to do so using the London Italian consulate. I've done research on requirements already, but wonder if someone could help me with these questions please: 1) sounds like it could take a year to get an appointment. Is it possible to book the appontment in the system now, whilst I spend the next few months gathering all the documents together? 2) From the consulate website, there's a requirement to provide documents for all direct ancestors. However, it does not clearly state as to whether these als ..read more

My infant child is a dual italian/British citizen and my partner and I are taking them to England shortly. My child has a British passport and I am using that as their travel document both ways. However, I have not got them an Italian ID card yet or an Italian passport. I vaguely remember something on a post from years ago where someone said they were a dual citizen and were told that they should fly out from that country (e.g. Italy) with the Italian passport and from the other (e.g England) with the British passport. Has any had these sorts of problems? It will be the first time we have all ..read more

Hi, we are in the process of buying a house in Puglua. We will be using it as a holiday home for the next 3 years, then we are hoping to retire there. We need to move our household goods out of storage and ship them over. We are researching moving costs to work out the best option for us, but are struggling to work out how much VAT we would need to pay. Some of the stuff is years old, some is a couple of years old and there are a few bits weve bought in the last year. We have receipts for some stuff but not all. Is it a case of you take your chances on the day you cross the border as to how de ..read more

I am Irish and I worked in Italy about twenty years ago for a year. I am currently buying health insurance in Ireland. I am 43. The price of health insurance decreases if you had health insurance before you were 35 or if you lived outside of Ireland before you were 35, so I want to prove I lived in Italy. I did not have a rent contract so I was trying to get proof of my tax contributions for that year. You can do this if you lived in the UK; there is a form you fill out. I contacted the Italian embassy in Ireland but the guy said he would love to help me but there is no such form that he knows ..read more
