Currently have a 5.5 month old standard poodle puppy. Went to a local pet food store today to inquire about different food brands. My poodle is currently on Royal Canin medium size puppy kibble, that’s what the breeder had him on. Pet food store owner said this kibble is “absolute garbage”. Called it, “basically poison” for dogs. She recommended I immediately begin giving him Next Level kibble. Specifically Next Level Hi-Pro 30 LS. I had read on-line that Next Level is a remake of... Hi all, I have a 10 week old 3/4 standard poodle, 1/4 Airedale Terrier puppy. We've had some food wobbles. He wouldn't eat much of the food supplied by the breeder (CopRice), and developed diarrhea when I tried to change it (even though he liked the replacement food (Purina One)). He's come right thanks to Royal Canin gastro food for dogs, and I am transitioning him onto standard Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy kibble. My question is about portions. Yes, I have read the packet and consulted... 10 week old standard poodle puppy quantities ..read more

Just wondering if anyone feeds their dog Forza10 Dermo Active? We currently have Simcoe on Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Derm Management Naturals. After a $13 per bag price hike in February, we are exploring some possible alternatives. Forza10 was recommended at our pet store. We switched from Acana Classic Red due to ear issues and paw issues and have tried a few other brands (Go! venison, Open Farm ..read more

Aspic / gelée - can dogs eat it?

I'm trying to increase my dog's water intake and have been adding broth or stock to his drinking water. I'm also wondering about aspic, the gelée I've made by boiling chicken with bones. It should be full of collagen and minerals and aminoacids. But can dogs eat or drink it in tiny amounts? And how much is a good amount for a mini do you think? Or should I avoid it altogether ..read more

Hi folks! My five month old wonder is a picky eater. That’s fine for her food, but I like to give her something extra compelling when we leave her alone (crated, she loves her crate, behaviourist confirms she doesn’t have separation anxiety, but protests being left alone). But she’s lazy, so she won’t dig deep in a kong. So, I welcome any suggestions! I’ve got wet food on a licky mat in the freezer, but it would be nice to branch out ..read more

I’m on day 4 with our mini poodle puppy (15 weeks old). He came with food that he had been on with his breeder, Eukanuba. Since he has been with us he has hardly touched it, he ate one bowl the other day when I mixed it with hot water and I thought I was on to a winner and nothing since. I quickly realised that maybe the yummy chicken training treats were maybe filling him up so switched to using his kibble. He happily ate it for one day when being hand fed as treats then refused it. Today... Puppy not eating ..read more

Quinoa vs Brown Rice

Is it better to use quinoa in home made food or brown rice? I was always under the notion that quinoa was a protein and not a grain but my neighbor apparently corrected me on that. I have been making their food for almost 3/4 of a year now and do see some non digested rice in their stools so I was thinking maybe I should change the grain ..read more
