Red tongue after starting raw

**** started on a raw diet last week and has now developed a very red tongue, almost crimson. Should I be concerned? I chose his diet as was recommended by a local raw dogfood collective. He's been eating ground up turkey that includes some bone and organ meat, salmon, and has had a lamb neck. He's had way more energy and is so excited at feeding time. I just want to make sure the red tongue isn't a sign of trouble. Any help is appreciated ..read more

Hello, I wanted to know how often you can feed raw eggs to a 4 month of puppy? So my husband and I got our first puppy a little over a month ago and we are starting to feed her a raw diet, right now we are getting the wefeedraw food. and she loves it, goes crazy for meal time. But I wanted to add raw egg to it as I know its good for them and their skin/fur. I was just wondering if anyone knows for a puppy who's a week over 4 months, how often I can feed it one raw egg a week ..read more

Pre packaged raw?

was wondering if anyone knows of good sources to get freeze dried raw or prepackaged? For affordable prices, I can't afford $100 a week or more on it. I was looking at this kind, but it of course has chicken broth used in it. I'm looking for one that is hopefully all turkey, or venison or salmon or any combo of those for miss allergy queen. I don't have sources here to be able to do the meat and everything myself and it'd be easy to do something packaged already. Even if it's cooked, but... Pre packaged raw ..read more

What supplements do you use?

This poll is just out of curiosity. I know supplements should be used only when necessary and under guidance from a vet, and it’s best to have a balanced diet either through a good commercial pet food or through a balanced raw diet. Since many persons here are knowledgeable, I was just curious about how many persons despite following a balanced diet also need to supplement something. Feel free to mention other supplements as well. Thank you ? edit: I think in error I posted this under... What supplements do you use ..read more

My pup is about ten months old. The diet we’ve been trying is: 1. A whole chicken (including bone), + heart, liver and gizzard. (No head, skin or feet) (raw) 2. Goat (without bone), goat liver, kidney, chicken heart, all cooked 3. Lamb (without bone) with goat liver, kidney, chicken heart all cooked The goat and lamb are cooked and without bone, to avoid parasites / worms, since these have not been bred specifically for human consumption. the above is from the butcher (I haven’t processed... How to make vegetables digestible?

Green tripe is not available where I live. (Slaughter of cows / buffalo is banned) I’ve been referring to Ian Billinghursts “Give your dog a bone” In the book he says vegetables are not digestible by dogs in their ordinary form, and in the wild they get their vegetables by eating the stomach of their herbivorous prey. Something about dogs being unable to break down cellulose walls. To simulate the same, he says to liquefy / powder the vegetables before serving them to your dog. So I took... Guidance on processing meat oneself

Apologies if this is not the right place, to ask this, but I’ve been trying to find information on the internet and have not found a satisfactory source. A friend has offered to show me how to process live chickens - but he generally does it when he is preparing chicken for his family - not for pets. I was wondering if someone could provide specific guidance on what to do to prepare it for my dog. For example, - how should I process the feet? I guess we should remove the nails, but what... Maybe raw diet isn’t possible to do well in India?

I’ve been researching raw diets. I read: Ian Billinghursts book “give your dog a bone” or whatever it’s called, and: Karen Beckers book then I spoke to my vet. He says raw diet isn’t a good idea in India because the cold storage / supply chain isn’t comparable to western countries. He also says, that goats and lambs are not specifically grown for human consumption here, so they are not dewormed here, and may have other parasites / bacteria. Poultry he says is ok. But even that you can’t... Maybe raw diet isn’t possible to do well in India ..read more

Hey everyone! Our boy is approaching 7 months and has been on Fromm Adult Gold his entire life except for the last month as I've been transitioning him over to Acana Large Breed Adult. When he was on Fromm he would usually have loose stools, pretty gassy and his energy some days seemed kind of low which is what prompted me to make a switch. He does have a more sensitive tummy so we are going really slow with his transition to Acana is been about 2 weeks now and he is almost at 100%...
