Hi! My 2 year old chihuahua cattle dog mix was a picky eater until we switched him over to Freshpet. He loves it, especially the beef recipe, but recently I saw some reviews on a grocery website about a known carcinogenic ingredient, carageenan, in this brand of dog food. When I did some research, the fear mongering info was mostly coming from competitors (I think it was Ollie?) -- so I am taking it with a grain of salt. In my heart of hearts I know I cannot continue feeding him Freshpet, even if the amount of potential cancer-causing ingredients is low. Any similar fresh brands that you love ..read more

I have a 10 month old Australian shepherd who weighs 47 lbs, and I’ve owned him now for 2 months. I am looking for a healthy food that is best for a dog around his age (puppy? adult?) and that is affordable. Maybe around $60 for 40 pounds (give or take a few dollars)? He had Victor high protein and he wouldn’t eat it. Then I tried putting salmon oil in it and it made him have diarrhea multiple times. I bought a small bag of Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein Natural Chicken, but it’s too expensive for me to continue to buy it. I’ve done research and they say that aussies get hip dysplasia w ..read more

Wet dog food that is rice and sweet potato free.

I'm looking for recommendations on a wet dog food for my 15yr old Pekingese beagle mix. She was on pure balance dry food for a long time but has recently been throwning up on it and was lethargic. I figured out that the kibble was giving her problems and switched her to Blue Wilderness wet food but wanted to see if there was something better for her. She'll mostly eat anything but has issues with rice and sweet potatoes. Does anyone have any recommendations? submitted by /u/DhampireHEK [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi everyone, I am pleading for your advice ? I have a 3yo dog, mixed breed, around 70-75lbs. Sweetest dog ever! Got him from a shelter when he was about 10 weeks, they sent him home with kennel cough and parvo. He’s completely healthy now ? But I need help with a suitable dry food for him. I’ve tried so many - Purina One, Rachel Ray, Blue Diamond, Costco brand, Wellness Raw, Origen, Science Diet to name a few. We’ve tried chicken, beef, lamb, turkey, rabbit, “wild game”, kangaroo. I’ve added hot water, bone broth, goats milk, mixed in treats and put his food in toys, etc. The only times he’s ..read more

I just received a bag of dog food but has a hole more of a slit on the front where it says “ancestral grain” about an inch in length. I already called and got a replacement( chewy customer service is amazing) I was just wondering if it would be safe to use or if i should just toss it( planning to but just wanted to hear your thoughts on it) submitted by /u/Infamous_Constant505 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Need help with super picky dog!

So my dog is super picky about food and definitely doesn’t eat enough. Currently she gets purina pro plan wet and dry mixed together with bone broth and fish oil. Now I know she enjoys the food because the first couple of times I gave it to her she gobbles it up, but eventually I think she gets bored and wants human food. I’ve switched up recipes, flavors, etc. but it’s always the same pattern of liking it then not eating it. I’m trying to train her to only expect dog food and not human food, but she got hit by a car recently and needs 5 different meds and only eats them with hotdogs, so that ..read more

10month GSD puppy on adult food?

I adoptee my 10 month old GSD puppy around a month ago. He was already transitioned to adult food at that point from the rescue/foster family he was with. I read that larger breed dogs take more time to grow - is it okay to continue on adult food? Should he be on puppy food longer? He is about 60lbs right now. submitted by /u/daisypoop_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi! Recently got a German shepherd puppy and we’ve been feeding him holistic health extension for puppies (the ingredients look great) and about 2 1/4 cups a day because he’s pretty active we take him on multiple walks a day. •What point do you switch to adult food? •How much adult food would you give an active German shepherd? Father was around 90 pounds & He will go on walks pretty much every day •What’s the best dry food for when we switch? (Would love to do farmers dog or something like that but from what I’ve seen for an adult dog you’ll bay between 200-400 a month which is too much ..read more

Good Experiences on Farmers Dog?

Hi everyone. I’ve seen a lot of back and forth about fresh food versus kibble (and the many reasons why one may be better than the other). My dog is very picky - we’ve tried Purina Pro Plan, a vet prescribed diet, and Hills. My dog has no interest in them. She has been on OpenFarm, the Salmon & Ancient Grains recipe, for about a year. She became very picky with this food so we have been mixing it 50% with Farmers Dog. Has anyone had a GOOD experience with Farmers Dog? What does your vet say? *Edit: we are trying Just For Dogs too but are noticing some “cons” compared to TFD so I just want ..read more
