Read reviews on different shotgun models in my shotgun archives. I started this site because I find a lot of reviews out there lacking. They'd often avoid any constructive criticism and many of the reviews online use very few images. My reviews use lots of high def images, I always include both pros and cons.

After the Benelli inertia system patent expired, we’ve seen an explosion in the number of shotguns using their system. It’s easy to see why: they’re simple in number of parts, clean shooting, and very reliable. The Girsan MC312 is an inertia-driven, semi automatic shotgun made in Turkey. It’s budget priced (I got this one on sale for cheap from Cabela’s) and copies a lot from the Benelli M2. In the US, these are imported by EAA and were selling for as low as $300 at one point.
Specs
28″ barrel
Weight: 7 lbs
7lb trigger pull
Fiber optic front sight

The Charles Daly 101 is a single shot, folding shotgun made in Turkey and distributed by Chiappa. They’re based on the older Beretta FS-1/412. They use extractors (no ejectors) and have interchangeable chokes. They come with a variety of barrel lengths and come in 410, 20 gauge and 12 gauge. They’re also super cheap. I bought all of these on sale for between $130-$180 each.
Specs:
Comes chambered in .410, 20 gauge, and 12 gauge
.410 with 14″ barrel: 4.22lbs
20 gauge with 26″ barrel: 5.17 lbs
12 gauge with 20″ barrel: 4.96lbs
No rib on the barrel

BioAmmo is compostable shotgun ammo made in Spain. Wolverine Supplies asked if I wanted to try some for 3 gun and I did! The 1 1/4 oz target loads piqued my interest and I got some of that.
I didn’t get a chance to run the shells at a 3 gun match for some time: Covid, me moving, and my local range shutting most of its bays (and 3 gun league) delayed my tests for quite some time and now Wolverine Supplies is sold out of the stuff! See their other shotshells here.
At the 3 gun match, the shells ran 100% reliably. No complaints about the performance in my semi auto Browning A5 as it ran fine and ..read more

Stevens 320 with the 18.5″ barrel
The Savage Stevens 320 is a Chinese-made, value-priced, 12 gauge pump shotgun imported by Savage. It’s based on the Winchester 1300, which uses a rotating bolt design. I bought this one because for $299, I got a 28″ barrel with choke and an 18.5″ barrel with cyl bore. You can sometimes get them even cheaper with just 1 barrel.
Savage Stevens 320 Specifications/Features
28″ or 18.5″ barrel or both
28 comes with a rib, 18.5 doesn’t.
Both come with a bead front sight
28″ barrel came with a mod choke (I believe it’s a Browning Invector style?)
Comes with plug ..read more

The Savage Model 24 is an over/under combo gun. It’s a 22LR rifle barrel overtop a 410 shotgun barrel, though some other similar variants like the 24V were available in heavier-duty centerfire rifle and larger shotgun gauges. They stopped making them in 2010, but released the Model 42 as its successor with polymer stocks. They’re setup as a small game getter: go 22LR to the head for maximum meat or 410 for fast takedowns of small game animals on the move (or on the wing)

The Sulun Arms SS-211 is a Turkish mini over/under shotgun, kind of like the Warzone 725 shotgun you’d use in Call of Duty but even smaller. With a 10″ barrel and a stubby little stock, it’s one of the tiniest non-restricted shotguns you’ll find in Canada right now.
Specifications
Note: some “factory defect” models vary in specs. Some had steel receivers, fibre optic front sights, ejectors instead of extractors, aluminum or steel receivers, different butt pads, etc. This shotgun is a factory defect model, which may account for the poor forend fit or rough muzzle finish but it was also heavily ..read more

Getting kids into hunting is tough. They have to get up early, travel far, wait long, and dad’s guns are heavy, long, and poorly fitted. When it comes to shotguns, there’s not really a lot of choice for youth shotguns out there, but the Mossberg 510 Youth is one of them. While this one is in 20 gauge, they also come in 410 and 12 gauge. They’re around $400-600 in Canada, and about 300-500 in the US.
Mossberg 510 Models
Mossberg offers the 510 in a pretty wide range of styles:
Barrels from 18.5″ to 24″ with chokes, or with fixed chokes
Capacity from 3-6 rounds (this one holds 4)

The Mossberg Maverick 88 is a value-priced pump action shotgun. Most models are in 12 gauge, but there’s also a youth model in 20 gauge. The Maverick 88 shares much of the operating mechanism of the Mossberg 500 series, but at a lower cost, with a fixed pump. The 12 gauge version will work with both 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells. They’re around $300 in Canada, and about $240 in the US.
The most popular models out in my neck of the woods are the 28″ barrel version with interchangeable chokes, the 18.5″ “security” version with cylinder bore, and combo packs that come with both. In my opinion, you have t ..read more
