I want to share more stories about the work I do with clients. To bring to life what it means to coach with a spiritual perspective, and why it is so transformative.  But there are only certain times when this is appropriate; when it can be done in a way that might be valuable for others whilst also respecting that the client might still be processing what they’ve uncovered. And of course, the client has to agree to have their story shared. Well, lucky for us, one of my wonderful clients is happy for me to share a story of our session this week, which I hope will be thought-provoking for ..read more

What’s the role of spirituality in the corporate world?

Last month, I attended a 5-hour workshop on energy management, led by a well-known life coach, with a group of highly successful entrepreneurs. It was a very enlightening experience for me, but probably not for the reasons the guy facilitating it intended. I noticed how out of place I felt in that room. Maybe I still have a lot of work to do on my own self-belief; maybe I’m holding a lot of judgement about others; maybe that community just isn’t my people (which is absolutely fine). Quite possibly it’s all of the above. But I also noticed how…unsatisfying I found the subject matter.  I’m ..read more

How deep self-awareness will support your leadership development.

I had a really powerful session with my coach this morning. I wanted to spend some time reviewing how my business has grown in 2021, and planning for 2022. I’ve been feeling a bit jittery and untethered, because I don’t know where I’m going next with my business. My 2021 word of the year was OPEN. I had no plans, no goals, and set myself no financial targets. I just wanted to swim around in the waters of this work, and see what came to me. This was a deliberate choice. My strategy, if you will, was to have no strategy. And, as much as you can make this statement when there were no measurable g ..read more

There’s one word in the English language so powerful that, if we used it more often, might change how we feel about ourselves, how we feel about others, and how we resolve conflict in our personal and work lives. So what’s the word? Well, the most powerful word in the English language might just be… AND. We need to stop trying to make things simple. We need to start getting comfortable with complexity. With not being able to easily label people and things as right OR wrong, good OR bad, happy OR sad. It’s possible to agree with someone on an issue AND find them a deeply troubling character. A surprisingly spiritual approach to time management

“There’s not enough time!” I’ve been having some very interesting sessions with clients recently about their relationship with time. For many of us, it’s a pretty toxic relationship. In fact, I’m becoming fascinated by the story that we each hold about time, and how that story affects our mood, our dreams and our actions.  Our perception of time is not ‘logical’ - e.g someone with objectively less time (due to multiple responsibilities, or older age, or a terminal illness) doesn’t necessarily FEEL more time-poor. Equally, a 22-year old with their life ahead of them doesn’t necessaril ..read more

A very short introduction to Premature Ovarian Failure

Originally written Nov 2015 Picture this. Waterloo Station at 8am on a Tuesday, packed to the rusty rafters with cheery, mild-mannered, beaming commuters tipping their hats to each other and trilling ‘Good morning old boy! Bit fresh out, what?’. Oh no, my mistake, that’s an Enid Blyton novel. People in Waterloo punch each other in the face and then leap over twitching bodies to get a table seat on the 08.16 to Guildford. A 28-year old woman squinting at the departure boards, angrily jostling for a square inch of space and wondering if the client will even notice if she doesn’t turn up for this ..read more

What I've learnt so far from running a leadership coaching business.

Happy Summer Solstice! I hope you find a moment to breathe some fresh air today. I’d love to be outside doing a pagan sun ritual, but it’s cold and wet in East London so instead I’ve been curled up inside reflecting on the first half of 2021. And I wanted to share with you what I've learnt so far from running a leadership coaching business. Most people join this community - as a social media follower, an email subscriber or a client - because they want to create change in their life. And whilst not everyone wants to leave employment and start their own business, I know that this IS a ..read more

How a 'word of the year' can support your leadership values and behaviours.

For the last four or five years, I’ve chosen a single word at the start of each new calendar year, with the intention of that word providing an ‘anchor’ for the year. It’s very much an exercise along the lines of ‘what you focus on, expands’. I don’t really use the word to set goals or anything; it’s more about getting clear on what’s really important to me at that point in my life, and the energy I want to bring to the year in order to honour those priorities and my leadership values and behaviours. Here were my words for the last four years: 2021 - Open 2020 - Nurture 2019 - Wealth 2018 - St ..read more

I’ve recently had a difficult experience with someone I was paying to do some work on my website. I’ve invested £££ over the years in support to help me grow my business. I have grown to recognise the transformation that happens when you allocate resources (time, energy, attention and money) behind a particular intention (business and impact growth). And the vast majority of these investments have been worth it. There are lots of brilliant professionals out there, helping other small businesses to thrive. But this most recent experience was different. I won’t go into the details - because they ..read more

Six Career Change Tips From a Leadership Coach
Victoria Smith Murphy Blog

Five years ago, I quit an interesting, well-paid corporate job to completely change my career and my life. Today, I run a successful coaching business. And it's MY definition of success. I work about 20-25 hours a week, and earn the same as I did in corporate. I have full autonomy over how and when I work, and I can be as creative as I want. The work I do literally changes peoples’ lives (their words, not mine!). Along the way, I’ve learnt a fair bit about what it takes to find and follow your own path. It is very hard work and it's certainly not a path to enlightenment. But change IS pos ..read more
