Conibears?

I am completely new to trapping, so I'm still learning my way around some of the terminology. My question: Are conibear traps legal for coons and such? In other words, are conibears "steel square instant kill traps," which are legal with an exterior jaw of 16", or is that something else? I know 110 body grip traps referenced in #10 are conibears, but that seems to be specific to water sets. Thanks ..read more

Not my intended target, but man what a big snapper, 330 had it by the neck. Anyone else ever have them get in their beaver sets. Caught a much smaller one before by the shell and it was alive. That was a real pita to get out of the trap ..read more

Skunks and woodchucks need to go. But I don't want to kill my barn cats or bobcat. How to?

I have a horse barn with partial concrete floor. Wood chucks have used a burrow under there for the last 400 years. I have used a conibear there and killed several a year for the last 15 years. Hit a skunk now and then. A possum maybe once a year. Now my trail cam shows a bobcat fairly regularly and an orange feral cat. I think these two are on balance good for the area. How do I keep the pressure on chucks and skunks without risking the cats? I have a couple of live traps that don't... Read more ..read more

Been a fun year for just randomly getting into it this year. Set my first 6 DP's out Dec 15th. Set my first foot holds out January 7th. Pulled everything at one farm last Sunday and tripped everything this evening behind my house. Had one pull out this afternoon that I suspect was another bobcat. Would love to have ended the last day of season with another cat. 13 coons 14 possums 2 skunks 1 groundhog 2 bobcats 1 coyote Had a fox squirrel in a foot hold this afternoon that I released... This coyote has been avoiding my sets for probably 2-3 weeks. Hasn't paid attention. Re set the traps and rebaited them after raccoons pulled out bait. Now he is 10 yards downwind but didn't get caught. Is the jig up? Or y'all think he will come back? He has not worked a set or dug up a set. Just has been walking past them till today ..read more
