George Sampsell lived in my hometown, Northumberland (Norry).
He was 'the Fox Trapper' around here.
And friend of my dad.
As a teen, I ask George many things about Fox trapping, but never got a straight answer or anything I didn't know. George's usual answer was I don't know, then he say, but you are doing alright kid.
Looking back, he was tight lipped.

Ran into a hunting buddy that I havent seen in a year recently. He told me while he was archery hunting last fall he observed a red fox walking across a cow pasture, and the fox stopped at two different piles of cow manure, sniffed around for a minute and rolled around in the manure for a good five minutes. I told my wife, I could have saved all the trouble setting up this picture and just used the one from last year. Somehow, I ended up with the same tally as the 2023 winter water line…47 beaver, 13 muskrats, and an otter. Only difference was I caught two mink this year, only had one last year.
I trapped in six counties, three WMUs. Got the five beaver limit in the 2G unit, as well as the 20 limit in 2D. Trapped in 15 different spots, 11 were productive...
