Hello all. I have a question for all trappers. How do you guarantee that a non target animal will not get caught in one of your traps? Where I live it seems that a few times a year someone loses their dog to someones traps. I spend a lot of time hiking in the mountains with my dog. We are often near creeks. I have taken to carrying bolt cutters and conibear release tools with me, in case she gets caught in a trap. I fear that if she were caught in a conibear, it would not end well. I don't... Well, I have had the best week of trapping so far, that I can remember. Last year I met two young guys trapping the same area as me, and they were very polite and asking questions. They wanted to see what I was catching so I stopped at their camp each day to show them the day's catch. At the end of the week they had a skunk. Can anyone tell me if using straight skunk essence would be a good lure for mink in cubbie sets? I'm planning on using those newspaper tubes and 120's. I have some good mink bait I made with fish and mink glands, but figured the skunk essence would really reach out in the cold weather. Plus be a good change up from fish. Worm ..read more

Most of my trapping is water trapping with beaver trapping being my absolute favorite. I’ve got some #5 Duke DBL and some Sleepy Creek #4.5 DBL that I plan to use this year on chains. Just like the mountain men did it. I also have some Belisle 330 and will buy some of the Duke 850 Pro coils when they become available. If I run anything on a drowner it will be one of the 850. Not sure how the summer is going for everyone else,but it's awful hot here.In a normal summer,we have 13 days of 90 degree temps,we will hit that number tomorrow.Problem is,there are more predicted in the next week. The FTA convention was in the 90s the entire time.First thing I packed for my booths,was a 20 inch box fan.Seems like that fan gets set up at a lot of the conventions I set up at. Okay guys... Our trapping season opens December 1st. I'm planning to run a line again this year; Kathie's health allowing.
