Every year it’s the same. Aviation families all around the world hold their collective breaths waiting for that moment that makes or breaks us. It’s the moment when we find out if he, our beloved pilot, will be home with his own family for Christmas…or making sure other people get to be with theirs. The release of the December schedule! It’s a delicate emotional precipice – a moment that either leaves us giddy with joy or broken-hearted. If the scheduling gods shine down upon our lives with favor we are granted a glorious season of togetherness, family, and our pilots home for Christmas ..read more

Hey, aviation family! Once upon a time I used to make a birthday/anniversary post at the beginning of every month. I’d really like to start doing that again in January. Except this time, instead of random cake photos, I thought it would be fabulous to feature the work of some of our incredible PW talent! I know we have some extraordinary bakers in our midst, whether hobbyists or professionals! There’s nothing better than community supporting community, after all. My hope is to make my monthly celebratory post featuring photos of cakes and perhaps cookies or cupcakes from our community talents ..read more

When thousands of people are crisscrossing the skies to joyfully reunite with their loved ones for the holidays, someone has to get them there! And when thousands of other people are desperate to get millions of last-minute presents to friends and family all around the world, someone has to get them there! If you are married to a pilot (or flight attendant), there’s a better than better chance that you will be spending the holiday alone – at least the calendar holiday, that is! It is, shall we say, one of the ‘nuances’ of aviation life. Those of us who are left behind often talk (dare I say co ..read more

So yesterday in the Adventures of Angelia… I got up early yesterday morning because I had somewhere to be and needed to do my chores before I left. As I was getting in my truck to leave, I heard my livestock dogs making a huge ruckus and decided I had better check it out before I left. Low and behold, they had a kitty cat treed right outside my garage. It was about 25 feet up sitting in the ‘V’ where the tree branched in a fork, and the dogs were at the base freaking out. I decided to pen up my dogs, figuring once the threat was gone and kitty’s heart stopped racing, he would come down and go ..read more

We’ve all seen the movie (only around fifty million times during his last trip). A chance encounter. A twist of fate. A stolen kiss. And they fall instantly, deeply, madly in love on the Carolina beaches beneath a breathtaking sunset. They spend two romantic, whirlwind weeks of sheer bliss together before she heads back home to her real life in Big City, USA. They think life will go on like before, that they can simply forget about those two incredible weeks, but love has its fingers wound tightly around their hearts and they end up rushing over tall mountains and across vast plains ..read more

**Note: This blog was submitted to me by a member of TPWL community. She asked that I share her story in hopes that others who are struggling with this issue know that they are not alone and hopefully find the answers they are looking for. ~Angelia Isaac was 8 years old the first time that he held a knife to his chest.  Eight! It would take six long years, twelve doctors, and 11 misdiagnoses before we finally understood why. This is Isaac’s story. Isaac first got sick in October of 2016. Isaac was 8 years old the first time that he held a knife to his chest.  Eight! He was impu ..read more

We all know that the pilot wife life at its worst can be chaos, but at its best it’s… Whiskey Tango Foxtrotting tee Eh, who am I kidding? At its best it’s still chaos! Sometimes it’s good chaos and sometimes… well, let’s just go with not so good. But it’s our chaos and we own it, rise above it, and figure out a way to love it. Because that’s who we are! Then at the end of the day we pop the cork and make a much deserved toast to us —the strong, the insane, the Pilot Wives!  Because let’s face it, if we don’t learn to laugh about it, then we’ll cry instead.  So just for a little ..read more

Imagine this… Your husband is on a trip. You are running low on milk and bread, so you wrestle your squealing toddler into his pants (no easy feat!), buckle the baby into the car seat, and head to the market for a quick shopping expedition. It’s been a week already, but you reeeeeeally need that carton of Oreo ice crea….errr, I mean gallon of milk! So you put on your Pilot Wife big girl panties and do it anyway.  Surprisingly, the outing goes relatively well. The baby sleeps soundly the entire time and your toddler only has one minor meltdown over a bag of new Paw Patrol shaped mars ..read more
