Gear changing mechanism - too much play?

Having some issues with this, never really liked to work on it, but.... needs to be fixed. So I wonder; if there´s too much movement up/down with the pawl and carrier, before the ratchet spring and plate are in place probably because the "tang" on the stop plate is worn, could that affect the gear selection? The gearchange return spring does not sit tight against the "tang" on the stop plate, you can see clearly that it is worn. There´s almost a 3/32" play (over 2mm). Would it help if I... Okay - here's one for the truly anally retentive.... I have just bought one of those nice ss large drain plugs from Eurotrash - the one with the smaller magnetic plug in the centre. I have read about the top clip coming out - then it and the washer are then free to roam about inside the cases. And of some folk who solder the clip to the washer to prevent that scenario. It has been a nagging thought for me - but I want to remove the washer and screen occasionally for cleaning. So I have... Read more ..read more

Have just purchased a new Dunlop (rear) tire. Purchased from a large online seller who also (like so many others) now sells on Ebay. Purchased as a 4.10 H 19 K81 tire. Although nowhere on the tire does it say K81 in the stamped/raised letters, it does say roadmaster TT100. Although it is not marked K81, it does have the identical tread pattern of the K81 that I removed from the wheel. The tire is marked as being made in Indonesia. Is this tire now considered the replacement for, or the same... Read more ..read more

Got another seat , now over 10 years since the norvil (useless) one was put in the rafters. It is as bad ! Have I got a rogue bike ? Think not. The original bracket is stepped, offset outwards and is visible well below the rim . Have the suppliers missed an obvious design necessity or is my bike a one off ? Help !!! Photos supplied. WM3 Rim Lock on WM2 Rear Wheel.

In mounting my new Avon Road Riders on my rear wheel, I noticed that my rim lock said "For WM3 Wheel". Not knowing what that meant, I carried on and completed the mounting job. Having never mounted a tire with a rim lock, I was as careful as I could be to pay attention to what was happening as I went along. With the tire on, the tube in with no air, I poked the threaded shaft of the rim lock with my finger and it freely moved all of the way in and back with no interference... I was...
