Emirates Team New Zealand have won a dramatically tough America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta Jeddah presented by NEOM.
Peter Burling, Nathan Outteridge, Blair Tuke and Andy Maloney were the dominant crew all week, winning five of the eight fleet races. But in the end that counted for nothing in the winner take all match race final, which the kiwi crew won the start of, before illustrating text book match race tactics, leading Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli around the course and taking the regatta after a spectacular nose dive from the Italians rounding the final mark putting an end to the race.

The story of the day was Emirates Team New Zealand again being dominant winning two races, as well as second place which was enough to secure their place in tomorrow’s match race final with two fleet races yet to race at the America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta Jeddah presented by NEOM.

Emirates Team New Zealand is geared up and prepared for racing in Jeddah at the America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta following a successful inaugural sailing session on the Red Sea. The team took to the waters in a 13-15 knot northwest breeze, fine-tuning their skills and equipment for the upcoming regatta.

The Jeddah Corniche racecourse area was a busy waterway yesterday afternoon with Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Orient Express Racing Team and the Challenger of Record, INEOS Britannia all putting in a super-long stint ahead of the America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta, presented by NEOM, starting in earnest next week. The next generation of potential Emirates Team New Zealand sailors, have spent a week under the spotlight at the team base in Auckland, as part of the selection process for the 2024 Youth America’s Cup team.
The squad of eight Youth Emirates Team New Zealand hopefuls undertook a busy four day schedule embarking on a steep learning curve encompassing the technical systems and software required to sail the AC40 as well as race training and simulation on the Emirates Team New Zealand simulator.

Following their strong showing at the first America’s Cup preliminary regatta in Vilanova i la Geltrú in September the Orient Express Racing Team are hoping for a repeat performance in Jeddah next week although the team remains realistic about results considering the amount of time the sailors have had onboard the AC40.
