I pulled the pan on my 4BD1T to check the bearings before I started the install. I’m trying to find a replacement oil pan gasket but a quick Google search reveals a variety of gaskets with different part numbers. Which gasket do I need? Also, when looking for parts I thought it would be a good idea to get the VIN off of the donor truck. Yeah drove it home 1000 miles without any major overheating issues. except for a pinhole leak in a hose that I had to bypass. Well upon arrival home I noticed the alternator was cracked in half and that's why the belt wasn't tracking properly, along with the usual rust on the vee grooves so I did a deep dive cleaned the pulleys up replaced the alternator, rebuilt the radiator holder and cleaned up all the brackets for the alternator routing and thermostat housing and return hoses, flushed... 1994 Cummins 4bt overheating ..read more

I have a question about oil quantity. My engine is a bit of a Frankenstein In that it has the 4bd1 head and oil pan on a 4bd2 block. I am also using the 4bd2 exhaust manifold which meant that I could not use the 4bd1 dipstick. Instead I am using the 4bd2 dipstick which is much too long. I’m also using the 4bd2 oil filter. My 4bd1 manual says the oil quantity is 8.5 US Qts Including the filters. I’m not using the two filter setup, I’m using the single filter from the 4bd2 with a capacity... A few months ago, I decided I wanted a diesel in my FJ40 project. It came down to 4bt or 4bd. The 4bd won. Started the search and drug this home yesterday. 97 2tc with problems. Still an expensive engine in non running condition. Seller said turbo failed and damaged one of the pistons. Knowing a rebuild is coming I’m now deciding if I should try to rebuild as a 1t. I'm trying to get the pilot bearing out of my 4bd1t so I can replace it with something that will fit the shaft of the transmission I'm trying to fit . I've got a lathe and turned down a rod for a tight fit and tried to drive it out with grease. This has always worked for me in the past, but I've tried it and the bearing still won't budge. I thought this might be a good spot for info since there seem to be guys still using these motors in the original NPR bodies. The older NPR's had 15.5" rims and those tires are the hardest to even find any. I have heard stories of having to change the whole rearend just to use the newer 16" wheels.
