I left my microphone on in the bathroom

I once went to the toilet with my speaking microphone turned on. The audience heard it all. My first “employee” was someone I made up (Sally from Accounts) because I was too scared to chase up overdue bills “myself”. I didn’t realise I had to set aside the GST portion I was adding to invoices and as a result, owed the tax office a massive amount of money. Yes, it’s been paid now. I was a finalist for the NSW Premier’s Women of the Year and the invite said the event was at Parliament House. So, I booked flights to Canberra. Turns out the NSW Awards were in the Parliament House located in, as th ..read more

Asking for help lets people love you
Turia Pitt

It’s wild isn’t it, that asking for help can feel so hard? Especially as women and as mums, asking for help can make us feeling like we’ve failed or aren’t doing life well enough. We even feel guilty. I want to flip the fear we feel about asking for help, on it’s head. If you want to as well, join me for this chat on the pod. Needing help doesn’t make you a failure or a bad person, it makes you human.  Remember that. There is no shame in asking for help. When you raise your hand and ask for help, it opens the doors for others people to do the same… so why not be the change you want to ..read more

Hope molecules with Kelly McGonigal

People often tell me they could never run, or they don’t see the attraction. Some even ask me why I run. Well, it makes me feel good. And you know what, I chatted with Kelly and I’ve discovered there is science behind it (and, I love some scientific evidence). There’s chemicals kept on our muscles. When we move, they are released. They want us to KEEP moving, so movement is rewarded. Kind of like the Fredo frog you offer the kids after a good day at swimming lessons. It’s natural to reward behaviour that is desirable, our bodies do it all on their own. So do you want a metaphorical Fredo fo ..read more

The exception to perfection
Turia Pitt

Look, if you’ve followed me for a while you’ll already know I’m a big proponent of ‘good enough is great’. It’s my stuff you to perfectionism. And usually, it’s a wonderful rule to live my life by. Go for a run and don’t completely ‘nail it’, but I’ve made the effort to get out of bed and put my shoes on? Yep, that’s good enough. Throw the washing straight from the washing machine into the dryer because you don’t have time to hang it out. Fine, its good enough. But I found an exception to this. I was in Baltimore, for my nose operation, and Michael called. He had news. The boys had nits. He ..read more

Some weekends are like mash potatoes
Turia Pitt

I had what I call a mashed potato weekend. I’ll explain. You know those weekends where you wake up on Saturday morning, and apart from kids sport, you haven’t been proactive with any other plans? So, it’s Saturday lunchtime – and u think what should we do this weekend? You haven’t planned anything. You end up watching a lot of Netflix. Maybe the kids are jumping from the dining table to the lounge. Maybe you are too. But then it’s Sunday night, you’ve got work the next day. And your weekend was good but not memorable. So it’s a bit bland, like mashed potato without butter. That’s a mashed p ..read more

It’s harder to hate yourself, than to love yourself (with Carly Findlay)
Turia Pitt

Carly Findlay, appearance advocate and author, doesn’t know why people expect her not to love herself, because she does – unconditionally. It’s this type of thinking that’s driven Carly to do the work she does advocating for face equality and increasing the visibility of those with a facial difference; because respect and love shouldn’t be determined by how you look. Listen to Carly and I talk all things face equality, the assumptions people make about the abilities of others and how Carly moves past harmful beauty standards. The #1 thing you need to know about self love
Turia Pitt
by Turia Pitt

What’s the NUMBER ONE thing you need to know if you want to feel better about yourself? Self love is not a destination. It’s something you work at, bit by bit. The truth is, self love is an ongoing process, a continuous exploration and acceptance of ourselves. It’s about embracing both our strengths and weaknesses. So if we’re never going to “get there”, to that non-existent destination, what can we do to start giving ourselves some love? Listen below, and if you enjoy this little Pep Talk I’d love you to listen to my Self Love Notes. My Self Love Notes are simple stories, with simple actio ..read more
