The Secret: Descension for Ascension
Sacred Breath Academy Blog

"Maybe you are searching among the branches, for what only appears in the roots." — Rumi What if the entire point to our existence was actually to embody our ascension, and our physical vessels were the key? What if our real work on this earth plane was actually through the art of descension— meaning, the integration of our spiritual essence into our human form? What if our soul's medicine lived deep within our bodies and could be activated by retrieving it from within? ***** The truth is simple: We already are infinite and divine. We came from this place and will ..read more

The Essential Role of the Diaphragm in Breathwork
Sacred Breath Academy Blog
by Kaya Danielle Leigh
1y ago
The diaphragm, located directly below the lungs, is a large, dome-shaped muscle that is the primary muscle of respiration. Upon inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and flattens and the chest cavity enlarges. However, in a world of shallow chest breathers, we often can isolate corresponding diaphragmatic tightness, tension and restriction, that which ultimately prevents one from breathing more deeply and fluidly, and also inhibits the air from descending into the lower lung. In essence, when the diaphragm is constricted, it impedes diaphragmatic breath. Thus, in order to allow fu ..read more

Note of Safety: I invite you to read this blog with an open heart and mind, through the lens of self-compassion. Generally speaking, we we ALL unconsiously judge in some capacity and it’s unlikely than anyone has 100% integrated or transcended it! We. Are. Human. Perfectly imperfect beings who are continuously learning and growing. The intention here is to an invite all of us to work with the mechanism of judgement as a teacher in order to create deeper empathy, awareness and understanding for both ourselves and others… Let’s dive in! Judgment of others points to aspects in self we learne ..read more

An Exploration of the Shadow Side of Breathwork Facilitation
Sacred Breath Academy Blog
by Kaya Danielle Leigh

To explore the shadow side of the majority of Breathwork that we currently witness being offered in the main, we must first begin with some essential context. To start, let it be understood that most (but not all) Breathwork we see being taught today (within the Conscious Connected Breathwork field) is that of open-mouth breathwork, meaning the inhale is being taken in through the mouth, and the exhale is being released through the mouth (i.e. in mouth, out mouth). Because of this approach, most mouth-inhale (open mouth) Breathwork Journeying activates the “fight or flight” (sometimes freeze ..read more

Emotional Intelligence: Connecting to our Emotions as Wisdom Teachers
Sacred Breath Academy Blog
by Kaya Danielle Leigh
1y ago
We are all emotional beings at our core, and we exist to express emotions freely, directly, fluidly and openly. Emotions serve as our inborn compass through life, and hold the potential to support us in navigating the world around us. Emotions allow us to embody an inner-outer symbiosis... if and only if we heed their subtle (and, at times, not so subtle) wisdom. Emotions are intelligent and intuitive signals, ever calling us into alignment with our essential (core) truth. Yet somewhere along the way, many of us learned to repress our emotions, especially those perceived as “uncomfortable” or ..read more

Letting it Go Vs Letting it IN
Sacred Breath Academy Blog
by Kaya Danielle Leigh

Letting it Go Vs Letting it IN It’s not about always “letting it go.” Sometimes, it's about letting it in. It’s about letting it deep. About letting it through. And being true to your feelings. It’s about giving your experiences the attention they deserve. And that may take a moment, or it may take years. The trick is not to shame your need to hold on to what has yet to be resolved. “Let it go” can become the mantra of the self-avoidant, feigning resolution because they lack the courage or the preparedness to face their feelings. Let’s not play that game. Let’s let things in and through, until ..read more

Nose vs Mouth Inhale Case Study

Nose Vs Mouth Case Study with Direct and Documented Feedback from Breathers Note: this is not to “push up against” mouth-inhale Breathwork but is to to boldly speak to this point: Every single person is different in their needs and ultimately Breathwork should be nervous system-led, along with the facilitator taking in the unique psycho-emotional compositions of every single breather. There should not be a ”cookie cutter” or aggressive mouth-inhale approach given to every person. This kind of invasiveness must stop. It is harmful, even if unintentional. Part of my (Kaya Leigh’s) soul dhar ..read more

The Nose: The Intelligently-Designed Path of Breath
Sacred Breath Academy Blog
by Kaya Danielle Leigh
1y ago
According to a wealth of information, both ancient and modern, simply put, we should ALMOST NEVER be breathing into our mouths, not even in Breathwork Journeying. It could be argued that short bursts of mouth breath, for example in kundalini yoga that is under 10 minutes, does not cause any lasting harm and holds benefits through short-term use. Anything beyond this, however, has significant consequences. This blog will explain why… Simply put: Noses are intelligently sophisticatedly designed for breathing, and mouths for eating! Let’s begin by first looking to nature… How do animals breathe ..read more

Understanding Cellular Memory, Emotional Imprinting and the Subconscious
Sacred Breath Academy Blog
by Kaya Danielle Leigh

Understanding Cellular Memory, Emotional Imprinting and the Subconscious Breathwork is a powerful tool to unlock un-serving and illusory beliefs held deep within our subconscious. Through an intentional journey into their being, the breather may illuminate what is influencing and motivating them without their awareness, and meet these textures of self through an expanded state of awareness, where newfound clarity may be born. Did you know that cognitive neuroscience now shows that we are up to 95% directed by our unconscious content! Meaning we are only conscious of about 5% of our cognitive a ..read more
