by Glenn Woodell Back in 2019, Virginia Beach saw Chevelle and Three Days Grace together, co-headlining with Breaking Benjamin. This year, Virginia Beach saw a little genre mashup with the hard rock of Chevelle and Three Days Grace mixed with the metal sounds of the British band, Loathe, for their Explosions tour. The opener from Liverpool, England, Loathe, saw some local love as there was a respectful smattering of fans wearing Loathe garb and cheering from the rail. For a band that at first appeared about to give a mundane opening act, they quickly proved otherwise as lead singer Kadeem Fra ..read more

Disturbed, the iconic modern rock and roll band wrapped up their “Take Back Your Life” tour in Noblesville, Indiana at the Ruoff Music Center on September 2, 2023. Fans lined up before the gates opened at the amphitheater to ensure they got a good seat on the lawn or in the jam-packed pit, down at the front of the stage. Jinjer opened the night up with their metalcore, progressive rock-hard hitting style. Lead by front vocalist Tetiana Shmayluk, the band performed flawlessly. Tetiana’s ability to go from intense screaming vocals to singing without missing a beat or dropping a note, was incredi ..read more

The tour dubbed The Summer Carnival featuring pop superstar Pink brought people in droves to Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I don’t have exact number of just how many people were in the stadium but from the stage Pink proclaimed that she had just broke the attendance record for Target Field. I believe the record was held by Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean when they played there in 2015 and around 44,000 people were at that show. Needless to say, this was a hot ticket and a highly anticipated show and Pink did nothing to disappoint the packed venue. Perched high above the stage, sittin ..read more

By Glenn Woodell As a photographer, I’ve taught myself to always bring all my gear and be prepared for everything. I broke that mantra for this show and paid the price. I usually only shoot shows where I can shoot from the photo pit and tend to avoid those where the photographers are given little chance of creativity by being shoved back to the sound board. This show unexpectedly fell into the second category. And even though I do have gear that will allow me to get close up shots, the distant viewpoint means all the shots would look pretty much the same anyway – just tighter. So, if the manag ..read more

Matt Maeson’s ties to the Hampton Roads area were evident as the nearly sold out crowd showed their enthusiasm from the very beginning, even with the opening act. Brennan Smiley, a touring artist from Phoenix, might as we have been from right here in Norfolk too, as the crowd gave him a warm reception throughout his entire set. One would almost think he was the headlining act before Matt came out. Matt’s soulful style of folk captured the entire audience. Signed by Neon Gold and then Atlantic Records, his first hit single was “Cringe” in 2016. He’s now put out eight singles over two full lengt ..read more
