I don't online game so won't be testing. I'm quite happy with Liquorix kernel for music production, which has similar low latency requirements as gaming.
I notice you have made 44 posts in 3 days since you joined. Almost spamming. It would be advantageous to all if you could concentrate on quality posts rather than quantity.

So... if you guys have any UNIQUE IDEAS that would helpful!
Securing a Linux system does not require "unique" ideas. A lot of good tips to do so have been provided in this thread. There are plenty of resources available to harden your system against various malicious actions.
For example CIS benchmarks are great checklists to harden systems. https://www.cisecurity.org/cis-benchmarks
You can audit your system with various tools. Tiger is one example, it reports what you could do to improve your system's security.
Code:
apt show tiger
However, you have been asked about your threat model ..read more

what is your display server? Hopefully for gaming it's x11. What's your graphics card? graphics driver? what desktop environment are you using? compositor? what are the compositors settings?
Most of this is answered by comment #13. If inxi had been run from within an X session it would have provided more details, and even more if a more recent inxi version. Current is 3.3.34.

I have just found out that the updated software only supports version 10.
So I don't need to go to 12.
The steps that I have found on the internet have not worked for me at all.

Hello,
How do you lock the screen? xscreensaver? other?
If you launch the following command in a terminal, does it stop while the screen is locked?
Code:
$> while true; do sleep 2; date; done
If not, do you know of a more generic command that is causing problems? (so that it can be tested)
Thank you Fabien
To lock the screen I use the ctrl+alt+l or sometimes I use the action buttons on the panel
Code:
$> while true; do sleep 2; date; done
Is this a command that I should use?
No, I don't know any other commands other than the ctrl+alt+l

Is there any difference in a hard drive that has been GPT partitioned under a legacy boot as opposed to one GPT partitioned under a UEFI boot?
I'm as certain as can be without authoritative confirmation that the answer is no. What can be an issue (very rarely) is how legacy mode handles GPT (it's a compatibility mode, not true BIOS).
It does seem like I'm missing some of the things needed in a UEFI boot and that might be part of the problem...
Missing what? There's actually not much to it. Anyhoo, if you're willing to consider UEFI boot, look again at my earlier suggestion about using a rE ..read more

It has been a few years since I ran Mate as my main desktop, but I have Debian 12's version in virtual machine for reference. It doesn't have any of these issues, except add-to-panel places the icon at top of screen not bottom. The buttons for open apps are on bottom, though, and work fine. The buttons for Workspace switching are there and seem to be alive, but I've never used so have no convenient way to test.
If this is a new install, I suggest you start over.
