But there is plenty of evidence to suggest the virus is on its way to becoming just another respiratory bug to contend with, alongside flu and others maybe lesser known, such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinorvirus and adenovirus. And last winter, there were estimated to be more flu deaths than Covid ones, in England - just over 14,000 compared with 10,000 - according to the UK Health Security Agency. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-66994137 ..read more

Not posted for ages but just wanted to ask how much variation there is in how individual homes interpret the relaxation of rules regarding care home visits. I last saw Mum early December and shortly afterward the home was closed due to a Covid outbreak, by the time it reopened my daughter and husband had been diagnosed with Covid and then after that my son got it. I had planned to visit Mum on Saturday only to be told they had another couple of Covid cases so now they were closed to... Read more ..read more

After caring for my wife for the last three and a half years covid free, all our jabs done and sticking to all rules, she went into a care home two weeks ago, as I could no longer cope. Tuesday they rang me to say covid had got into the home and my wife had tested positive. Some of the staff are also off. There are people in this country who need a wake up call, the virus is still here and rampant, for goodness sake think of other people. I will continue to take all precautions and wear a... Has any research been done on the lasting effects of Covid on Alzheimers? My husband who is at a moderate stage of Alzheimers tested positive on Tuesday. By Thursday morning, after speaking to 111, an ambulance was called as he had lost the thought process needed to get back in the bed. He ended up sitting on the floor unable to move anywhere. The delirium caused by Covid made him incontinent, very restless, trying to get out of bed and unable to follow the simplest instruction. I was with... Read more ..read more

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any updated news about whether lateral flow tests would be made available to carers after 1st April? I go in to help my dad 4 times a week and test twice a week at the moment because I've got to take public transport for an hour each way and that means I can't be as cautious as I'd like. Thank you ..read more
