On Sunday, 4th place Simcoe County Rovers travelled to Oakville to face 3rd place Blue Devils FC. The Devils were buoyed by a superb midweek victory over leaders Scrosoppi at the Soccer Centre and were aiming to put some daylight between them and the rest of the playoff pack. Rovers were coming off the back of a big win at North Mississauga and the match had all the makings of a classic. The Blue Devils had the better of the opening exchanges before Jevontae Layne won the ball on the edge of the area, turned and fired the ball past the Blue Devils keeper to give the away side a 4th minute lea ..read more

It was a week of highs and lows from Simcoe County Rovers, Barrie’s League1 Ontario side this week. Simcoe County Rovers Women’s side went into the week knowing that nothing but wins would give them the advantage going into the play off race. On Wednesday they faced Electric City and, despite dominating for most of the match, they only managed to pick up a 1-1 draw thanks to a Michelle Plowman (pictured) equalizer. The upside of the draw was that it enabled the club to lift the Trent Severn Cup 3-2 on aggregate following the men’s 2-1 win earlier in the season. This result meant that on Satur ..read more

Canada’s appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar put the nation on the footballing map. As they set out to compete in a very difficult group, it ended rather quickly as they failed to pick up any points and were eliminated after defeat to Belgium in their 2nd game. Whilst there was immeasurable pride for their nation’s efforts, some Canadian fans were quick to point the finger at Jonathan David. The 23-year-old, who has been a revelation at French side LOSC Lille, was unable to replicate his goal-scoring prowess for the reds. However, back in France, David is joint top-scorer in the Ligue 1 ..read more

Cyle Larin is one of those players who has struggled to find consistency throughout his career. His time in Turkey wouldn’t be described as a roaring success, despite finishing joint second top scorer in the Super Lig with 19 goals in 2020-21. The Brampton-born striker has however, hit the ground running at Real Valladolid in Spain after his January move, and may help ‘Los Pucelanos’ in their bid to stay in La Liga this season. Cyle Larin’s Journey Larin signed for Besiktas, one of Turkey’s most historic clubs, in 2018, after a falling out with MLS side Orlando City which involved him missing ..read more

Vanni Sartini‘s team has started their MLS season with two losses and two draws. Despite being the better team on the opening day, Whitecaps couldn’t stop RSL from turning the game around in the second half. A similar theme of events followed the Vancouver team to their trip to San Jose on game week two and a fair draw was the result when they went toe-to-toe with FC Dallas last Saturday. Not in MLS, but Vancouver Whitecaps have registered a win this season- 5-0 thrashing of Real Espana in CCL Round of 16, 1st leg. It might be too early to judge whether Whitecaps will taste success this season ..read more
