Yann has came back for the 4th time to come cave diving in Tulum. He’s got a great attitude and been learning cave diving little by little, taking a new course every year to keep growing constantly without rushing and passing from zero to hero in no time. Respect man, you’re doing amazing. In this week of cave diving, we went to several dive sites to get to see different environments and atmospheres. He wanted to see some haloclines, big rooms and salt water tunnels. We did a bit of everything. You will see now in the video some sections (but can you name them?) of  Cenote Mayan ..read more

Cenote Vaca-Ha with Jaime and Elliot

My last cave dive in Mexico before I go back to Europe over the summer. Jaime, Elliot and I decided to do a nice long dive in Cenote Vaca-Ha. Elliot and I were diving with a double stage configuration while Jaime was on his KISS Sidewinder Rebreather. The Sidewinder is a real sidemount rebreather and is a good game changer for the caves of Mexico. I never was interested in rebreather diving as I thought we didn’t need it for the caves here… But seeing how comfortable he dives being sidemount and us carrying 4 freakin’ tanks… it makes me think a bit. Moreover, at the end of the dive, Elliot an ..read more

Let’s follow Shannon diving a cool cave in Tulum!

Shannon has been working on a mapping project in a really cool cave in Tulum. She decided to take me on a dive to show me this beautiful place I didn’t know about. It is actually a pretty easy drive to get there and not too far away from Tulum center so it’s a pretty convenient dive site to have such a project in. When we arrive at the dive site, the water doesn’t look very inviting. It seems to be just a dirty mosquito pond, very very tanic with no visibility. One of those cool entrances where no one would ever think we could dive there except cave divers, of course. Once we get all our gear ..read more

Quarantine Cave Dive

Right after the Covid19 pandemic, a cave dive was needed but we knew that we had to live on the budget as we didn’t have that much money. Not being able to cave dive as much as we want, we needed to chose our spots wisely. Of course we went back to one of our favourite dives. It is a very short cave dive (about 1h), very near Tulum but so much fun and it changes a lot. We start in a very tannic water, the walls are black and we can find a lot of sea shells all around the walls. The cave goes a bit before reaching a big black room with a nice black halocline in the middle. We cross through and ..read more

Wreck Diving in Annecy, Le France.

This is a short diving video about a beautiful wreck in Annecy, Le France. Le France is the last steam boat which sank in 1971 (some say because of the cold winter, some other think more of insurance scam) and was 47m long (155ft). The shipwreck lays down at 42m depth (138ft) in 6degrees water (43F) in early August. This dive was by far my coldest dive ever. After 45min diving, I couldn’t feel my hands anymore (wet gloves) but I really loved it. Visibility was not too bad (about 5m) and we even got cheese and wine on the boat after the dive. What else could I ask for? I guess that’s the perks ..read more

My best cave diving experience
Zen Diving Blog

Here we go, an article and a video about my best cave diving experience ever. We always wonder or find on internet what are the “10 best cave diving destinations” or the “best dive sites”. Well, for now I found mine, and it is in none of those recommended places. For a matter of conservation, accessibility and trust, we won’t say where this was taken but god those caves were mind blowing! For the ones who’ve been there and recognizes either of the divers or the location, I’m sure you will understand why. Not only the caves were amazing, but the whole thing was actually an awesome adventure. Th ..read more

Cave Diving in France, Lot.

Our next stop after a wonderful week diving in Sardinia, it’s time to go back to my native country and go cave diving in France. It’s been a while that I hear from everyone I talk to in the diving community that I should wet my fins in France because no, I’ve never been cave diving in France before. I learned scuba diving straight away with the base of cave diving as I did my open water in Tulum. Having learned somewhere else, it didn’t allow  me yet to dive in my own country. So here it is, I put my drysuit and my thick undergarment and let’s go in 12 degrees water (53F). Shit that’s col ..read more

Our famous gang of #teamredfins on holidays through Europe for awesome new adventures! The trip started with epic cave diving in Sardinia where we had a lot of good laughs and amazing food. It was for me my first time cave diving anywhere else than in Mexico and I really enjoyed the new environment. How would I adapt to cold water? Diving with gloves and tons of undergarments. Would there be more current? How about visibility? All those questions I now have founded answers to. Practicing in different environments teaches you how to optimize your cave diving techniques and equipment for all si ..read more

Deco ocean dive in Tulum, looking for new dive sites
Zen Diving Blog

It’s the 24th of December Jakob and I don’t want to go to work but we still feel like doing a productive pre-christmas dive.
What shall we do? Do we know good deep ocean dive sites in Tulum? Not really… Shall we look for one? Yeah for sure, let’s do it! Our double tanks are filled with air, we grab a stage tank each with EAN50 to do our gas switch at 21m and let’s go. Jakob calls his contact for the boat and we head towards Tulum beach.
To be honest, there’s not much to tell about that dive, we dropped down to 42m and drifted for a 30min bottom time and started the ascent. We didn’t see muc ..read more

Deco dive in Cenote Zapote

Shannon, Jakob (Prorec) and I (JC) decided to do one our monthly deco dive in Cenote Zapote, Puerto Morelos, a little further than we’re used to and get to know a little better some of the Cenotes we don’t get to dive so often. We take a stage tank in matter of gas volumes and just for practice but we will be diving air to a maximum depth of 45m and a “deco gas” EAN30 just to practice the gas switch procedure and a longer ascent but of course we could have done it way more efficiently. We were just on the budget those days and we had all the time in the world so why not?

As we descend, the c ..read more
