Exercise, health and nature

Exercising is good for your health. And if you can’t do it regularly, it’s always a good idea to take a few weekends or vacations to integrate exercise in your life. It is very important to choose an exercise modality that you find attractive, and do it outdoors, in unpolluted places. Doing physical exercise inhibits the appearance of many of the organic changes that are associated with the degenerative process of getting old, and also helps in the rehabilitation of certain pathologies that currently contribute to the increase in morbidity and mortality rates. Several studies show that regular ..read more

Agroecology and regenerative agriculture

With so many advantages, how come it is not yet a common practice? In a rapidly changing world marked by climate change, continued extinction of high numbers of animals and plants and marked by the degradation of fertile and productive soil, we face the greatest challenges of all times: changing the way we understand and treat soil; changing the way we understand forest and agriculture; changing the way we eat; choosing well what we consume, to whom we buy and how far from our homes. Inspired by nature, agroecology or regenerative agriculture brings together trees – forestry, and the product ..read more

What is sustainable living?
Peneda Ecofarm Blog
by Elisabete Alves

Sustainable living is a practical philosophy that aims to reduce personal and societal environmental impact by making positive changes which counteract climate change and other negative environmental concerns. * We all know that by now. We must refuse a system that ignores the overexploitation of the planet and society, putting at risk the biosphere’s ability to self-regulate – and therefore our very own existence on this planet – and the social cohesion and democratic values that took so hard to conquer. And we must refuse to measure and value things only from a financial persp ..read more

Porto, north of Portugal and Galicia

Portugal was born in the north. It was in Porto and the north that we learned the value of difference but also the complementarity between cultures. Maybe that’s why, no one is indifferent to Portuguese hospitality. A Portuguese home is one that genuinely loves to receive well, to share its table and its traditions. From the mountains to the coastal beaches, this is a territory of steep slopes, covered with leafy vegetation, rivers and natural parks. The entire region is still full of elements of cultural and symbolic importance, from the built heritage, to music, folklore and gastronomy ..read more

What type of agriculture and forest for Portugal?
Peneda Ecofarm Blog
by Elisabete Alves

With the depopulation of the Portugal’s interior and climate change – which result in increasingly unpredictable weather phenomena, with the constant scourge of fires, associated with an increasing ignorance and disinterest in the potential of indigenous species, the type of forest we see all over Portugal is mainly monocultures of eucalyptus, or just land without trees, with mainly pioneer plants growing between recorrent fires. Portugal is the country with the largest area planted in eucalyptus in Europe and ranks 5th worldwide. This is the result of an active strategy to promote eucalyptu ..read more

Rheumatoid arthritis and being a mother – challenges that transform us
Peneda Ecofarm Blog
by Elisabete Alves

Being a mother. Today I am more complete. But being a mother forced me to look inside myself, to get to know myself better and, ultimately, to heal wounds that clouded a more serene understanding of the world. But I only got there after the universe sent me a truly «beautiful» rheumatoid arthritis. This is the story of how these two challenges shaped my (evolving) view about the world and the meaning of life and contributed to the emergence of the Peneda ecofarm project. There were other challenges, of course, but for now I choose to share these two fundamental ones. The others will come up na ..read more
