I have recently acquired a solo 600 which Huskvarna branded as a Husky 32, and I can’t get started as no spark, I have changed plug and and set points and coil spacing to manufactures recommend space, still no spark next is to replace the coil, this is where I have become stuck! I can’t find one, does anyone know where I may buy one from or know of an alternative chainsaw model coil that will fit?  ..read more

261 autopsy

I'm in Australia helping a friend on their farm and their 2020 261 died whilst cutting firewood. I was fairly surprised they had a 261, farmers tend to go bigger but cheaper... Anyway, it got hot and lost compression. I advised them to dump the fuel from the other saws (026 and 211) using the same can just in case and there were no further issues with these two other saws in the rest of the two days of use. The 261 got hot (very hot) and lost compression. I tore it apart and found the piston had a hole melted through... The bore is scored beyond repair. I can't feel any play in the crank, the ..read more

Any idia on why my stihl 660 isn't running so good.. It's seems to be low on power and gets bogged down easily,  I have an old 450 which easily outperforms it. Also any opinions on the newer big saws such as the 500i. I need something reliable with plenty of power for big timber. Thanks ..read more

550XP Poor start and cutting out

Hello I have a 550XP that has started to really give me some problems.  It takes an absolute age to start, and once running, if you let off the throttle, she cuts out. Then the starting games start again.  I’ve whipped off the exhaust and there is scoring on the piston, time for a new saw I think. She’s done me well.  I have two questions. Is it reasonable to purchase a 500i and use a 20 inch bar for day to day use? I’ve needed something bigger in both cc and bar length for a while. Are they worth the price extra few hundred compared to maybe a 372? Second question, what’s a rea ..read more

3120xp 1989 no choke(!) model

For some reason my 3120 won’t start.    It’s a 1989 model.  Normally you pump the primer to get fuel to carb as it doesn’t have a choke.  was working last time I used it a year ago but can’t get it to pump the fuel through.  Could it be an air lock?   Wondering if there is a way to get it to fire and pull fuel through ?   any thoughts very welcome.  cheers ..read more

Cutting seasoned oak.

As per the title. Im no longer in the Arb arena and back in construction so some advice would help. I’ve got to cut and scarf several good sized oak purlins from an oak framed building and cutting them with my chainsaw would be significantly easier than any other tool ( circular saws etc) on my truck.  My question is would you just use a standard chain on my old Makita saw as I have got a couple new of chains still in the box, or would you buy a hardend / carbide / toughened type chain.  Don’t mind ‘investing’ in a specialist chain if that’s what needed or would you just use a stand ..read more

Stihl 181c cutting out when on its side

I got given a ~ 10 year old 181 that’s been sat around for an extended period.  A service kit and a carb kit got it going - it was initially a non-runner Kind of… It runs perfectly vertically - starts fine, cuts perfectly well when cross cutting etc Until you put it on its side, like putting the back cut in when you’re felling a small tree - the saw gradually loses power.  Moving the body back to vertical gets it going again.   I *think* it’s because the fuel filter isn’t moving around inside the fuel tank but I don’t know just how ‘floppy’ the fuel line should be.  I defin ..read more
