As the title says, when it is cold starts right up. works for 5-10 min then dies and would not start again. Let it cooll for 20 minutes, starts and dies almost immediately. Next day starts from the first or second pull. Put a new carb, same thing. Spark plug is dry and light brown color. Spark is strong. Any thought ..read more

I was told the crank seal was bad. So he changed it and it didn’t last a tank of gas till the same thing. Won’t take gas. It’s a 70s saw that I bought new. My question is is there a place online to buy this. I’ve watched so many utubes I think I can change it myself. He is a great guy but I think he ruined the seal installing it. Thanks to anyone who might help ..read more

Stihl MS-170 on/off/choke switch

I recently acquired a Stihl MS-170 chainsaw. Switch was originally 'off' and I moved it to choke to start. Started fine. But now I can't get the switch to slide back to 'off'. Just seems to be blocked by something. Is there a trick to getting it to move to 'off'? I've been shutting it off by choking it, which is not how I want to do it. All the manual says about stopping the engine is "Move the Master Control lever to the stop position (0)". It also says under warnings "The Master Control... Read more ..read more

Tree demolition prices for taking down damaged or disease stricken trees in our part of Northern Illinois have skyrocketed after COVID. After I received three immense quotes for taking down a diseased old cherry I went online and discussed with friends the price of a large chainsaw that could handle thick trunks. Ended up purchasing this Huskie 585 with a 28” bar. All I can say is that I wished I had bought it years ago. The time it saves has been phenomenal . I’ve used it on three trees... Looking for suggestions on used pro grade, or at least commercial (non-homeowner) top handle saws I have Stihl & Echo dealers and would prefer to stick with them. Not looking for brand warfare. Anyone have actual model they have used a lot and really like? Price is important here. I can’t spend $800 on new. Would like to find something under $400 ..read more

I didn't know where to ask this question so I just chose this forum. Is it possible to hook up a battery jump pack to a trickle charger? I don't use the two that I have very often and that means that when I have to use one it usually is not fully charged. So my question is can you attach the trickle charger to the two alligator clamps of the battery pack to keep it charged ..read more

Odd situation : only half of chain teeth beat up

I went to sharpen the chain on my Stihl ms261cm after it got dull( probably hit some dirt while bucking up a maple). Only the teeth pointing one way had ragged cutting edges, while the ones pointing the other way were just a little dull, but undamaged. What could hsve caused this? It's a Stihl semi chisel 3/8 chain on a 20" lightweight bar ..read more

@xyz123 Since you are the poulan expert. I just picked up this Poulan Pro 655 with the Boost Port. The guy I bought it from did not think it was a boost port model, but I sent the pictures to a friend and he confirmed the BP. Anyways...I have some questions for you. I need to know if the Echo fuel line fits Polan stuff, or does Poulan use a funky size? I guess this will also let me know if I need a small ID fuel filter or the larger ID fuel filter found on Stihls. What mount... Read more ..read more
