Bought a project...cyl toast?

So. Bought a couple 262s as projects. The newer one is fine as is, just cleaned it up. The other was "ported", or, butchered depending on opinion I tried to clean up the rough everything but I think the exhaust was lowered way to much. Intake looks interesting. Not sure what was used on the transfers, lol. The saw "ran" but had a big air leak from the carb block gaskets. Throw it back together with new gaskets and see what happens or fing a replacement cyl? Squish was 037-038 with OE... Read more ..read more

Stihl 046 bar

I have a Stihl 046 that I use some. I had a 20” Stihl rollomatic bar on it. I misjudged a tree and got it pinched pretty bad the other day. I think the bar is messed up a bit. I am figuring I should get another. Curious what bar y’all would recommend for the 046. Would be on mostly post oak trees up to 24” wide. Occasionally bigger stuff. Also, any tree cutting usually involves clearing yaupon brush away first ..read more

HT131 new carb adjustment procedure

I just put a new OEM carb on a Stihl HT131 polesaw. Can someone tell me how to adjust it or direct me to a thorough reference? The saw manual info is extremely brief. I have extensive experience with these saws, but very limited experience with carb tuning. Probably unnecessary ramblings, but this was how it went for me: When I first tried starting it, it fired immediately, but didn't stay running. I messed with the low end for several minutes and the idle a bit and couldn't get anything... Read more ..read more

Broken piston crown (Echo CS-7310p)

What is the reason for a piston crown breakage? I've been scratching my head over this one--there is no sign of scoring, plenty of lubrication, and no damage to the rings or cylinder whatsoever. This is a high use saw but only 14 months old. The ring side clearance was only 0.005". It has had Red Armor in it all its life and these have one of the best air filters on any saw ever. I suppose this is a case of a manufacturing defect, but it seems it should show up before hundreds and hundreds... Read more ..read more

These little clones hit the shelves today, beating Neotec to the punch. We have some in stock plus they are on fleabay and probably the Zon. $160 including shipping. I tried one out a couple weeks ago and it does pretty darn good. It's not a screamer but has plenty of torque. I'll have one on the way to @huskihl in a couple days. Here's my first look. I have some shots from the woods on my channel too ..read more

Leaking Bar Oil

My Stihl ms261 has been leaking for a few years. Initially not much and didn't think it enough to bother with. Lately it is leaking to the point where I would like to fix it. Yesterday, I took the saw apart enough to clean and inspect the oil pump, and filled it and left it overnight. I now see that it is leaking from the screw oil adjustment. Anybody know what is involved in fixing a leak at the screw adjustment? The setting was full oiling, so I back it off to minimum oil output to... Read more ..read more

Hi All I have my 2012 450 E series (I) here that was new to me originally. It's been a part time saw with not a lot of running each year and kept well tuned and sharp etc by me, an engineer. The beginning of a long story: Well, about 8 months ago it started doing what I can only describe as weird things in the cut after warming up (like literally 5-10 mins into cutting), which kept getting worse and worse. it would start to falter and stumble in the cut and would slightly idle up when on... Poulan 2150 Brake Spring - Found it!!

Hi. I just purchased a Poulan 2150 for $20 off a FB Marketplace ad. Included were an extra chain and a case. It's too early to see if this is qualifies as a good deal. So far I have found that the fuel lines were completely incorrectly routed and the line from the tank appears to be the original and needs to be replaced. The fitting for the fuel return is missing. Parts are ordered to fix all that. So yesterday I thought I would see why the brake wasn't working. The lever moved back and... Read more ..read more

We are trying to help Nixons wife with John's last big saw. We have started a raffle for the 390. It's listed in the Estate thread but I figured it would be good to post it over here too. The saw was ported by Terry Landrum and runs very well. Saw is in excellent to minty condition. Here are a bunch of pics and a cutting video ..read more
