Saw sat apart for a year or so.Put it together, flooded. Carb quickie apart clean reassemble runs. Trouble with Oiler and fuel line, apart and back together a couple times. Cut a little, went to fine tune a couple days later, high speed breakup, seemed like ignition? Tinker with coil, changed plug, went to test run. Only runs for a bit on high idle. Screws all the way in don’t kill it. Little gas coming out the muffler. I already have a kit on the way but this diaphragm and gasket don’t... Read more ..read more

What aftermarket manufacturers put their name on cylinders?

As the question states, what manufacturers actually think enough of what they are building to put their name on it? I am seeing a lot of cylinders on saws that I work on that have no markings on them whatsoever. I am led to believe they must be the cheapest ones found on eBay. Even Farmertec is putting their name on cylinders... I am pretty sure Cross does as well. Who else ..read more

How do you check squish?

064 on the bench, cut the chamber and then base to get my desired squish. Landed on .023 PTO .0235 flywheel, l checked 1 side at a time. I seen a post recently where squish was checked using 2 small pieces greased to the piston. I liked the idea, eliminate “rock” in the piston and bearing tolerances. So I thought I would check that way also. After doing that it came out .017 both sides. Pretty surprised by the difference. This is with new crank bearings and wrist pin bearing installed... Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone knows the measurements of these things, mainly the centre to centre distance and the lower hole diameter (the side that connects to the crank). I read somewhere that from the k760 and up the con rods are the same i.e k770 k790 , not sure if this is true or not. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers ..read more

Jonsered 2050 Turbo refurbishment project

Hello from newguy#2! I am starting my refurbishment project of my 20-year old saw, a Jonsered 2050 Turbo. It's my first chainsaw and it has sat in my garage un-fueled for the last 10 years. It's mostly original, save for it's 3rd chain and a spark plug. I bought it new at a dealer for $249 in 1999 with 3 spare chains. Became 'sold' on Jonsered's after seeing a local logger who used nothing but! My plan is to disassemble & clean to the point where I can get it running reliably again. I'm a... Read more ..read more

Chainsaw to the rescue for bush trimming
Outdoor Power Equipment Forum » Chainsaws

Not a joke, I'm serious! Would a chainsaw be a decent tool for cutting Azalea flowering bushes? I have some in front of my main, wide front window at my house and over the decades, they have crept up with my hedge trimming such that they are just too tall, they are as tall as me. Which means they almost block the entire tall set of windows. I need to take them down a lot! Maybe half? I don't even know if they will grow back ok with that much trimming. The lower you go into the bush, the... Read more ..read more

At least it is for me. First time its happened. Got an 034 off this site that was mostly complete and decided to fix her up. Had some problems along the way, stihl evedently changed some parts slightly while retaining the same part no. Got her together, started her up but she'd quit after start up. Put a new fuel line in her, the vent was good, impulse line looked good, so I figured seals or base gasket. Shes old so seals wont hurt. Put new seals in and she did the same thing. This time she...
