Couldn't get one of my 036 saws started a couple weeks ago. Decided to pop the cover off the muffler and see what the piston looked like. Is it time for a new top end ..read more

Husqvarna 435e compression specifications

As the title states, I am looking for a good compression specification on a Husqvarna 435e. I know the general rule of thumb is about 140 psi, but there is no specification listed in the workshop manual, and I measured about 120 PSI cranking compression but there is no scoring that I can see with the jug installed. So I'm wondering if someone has a a properly running 435e or a 440e and can tell me what their saw makes for compression. Thank you ..read more

Husqvarna 390XP blowing smoke from clutch area

Hi My 2 year old Husqvarna 390XP is blowing smoke from the clutch area (which also ends up coming through the muffler). Ive had 2 piston/cylinder replacements in the last 6 months (from apparently doing a too leaner oil:fuel mix - even though i always go under the recommended 50:1 mix). Latest mix was 35:1, as many other operators are saying your better off using more oil then not enough (to stop the expensive rebuild from happening again with 50:1 mixes) Anyway, the clutch cover was... Amateur storm chaser Houston hurricane cleanup

Drove down with my 100# wife(!) to help my Mom clean up from Hurricane Beryl. Low category storm, but still had fairly high winds and ground was super wet. Knocked over old growth pines (some over 100 years old) all through my mother's neighborhood. Took my Echo 7310 and 2511T, also 23 year old Stihl MS 290 Farm Boss and an electric pole saw. Some observations: 1) All the saws had a couple of tough moments starting hot in heat and humidity. That same heat/humidity 91-95 degrees at... Read more ..read more

Stihl MS261 - insulation mat (missing part nr)

heya everyone One of the simple questions...I hope. Got my hands on a Stihl MS261 - in good condition. But I am missing the part nr. for the "insulation mat" under the muffler. It came off during cleaning, and the IPL I have doesn't show the part nr. and I can't find it any other place. The service manual describes it, as a "heat insulation mat". Anyone able to help out? Perhaps the item is simply no longer in production, and thus really not needed? See pictures ..read more

064 air filter part number confusion

Hello, quite a while ago I bought a Stihl 064 from a tree service. They put an oem 660 cylinder on it, and it ran well and strong when I tested it. I barely ran it, which might be a good thing... Was looking at the IPL and I noticed I seem to have an air filtration part missing, the one with number 14 in this screenshot: I started looking up part numbers, which didn't really help. I took a picture: The part top left, the actual air filter, has part number... Read more ..read more

Any Chainsaw portrayed in video games as an useful weapon against zombies and demons or aliens in games like Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead 2, or the classic game from 1993, Doom. or non-violent video games like farming simulator etc. There is a Sthil chainsaw in Left 4 Dead 2, i love the hell out of that weapon. and Dead Rising 2 has an Sthil chainsaw and an giant pink one. and Doom has the McCulloch Eager Beaver. then there's Lolipop Chainsaw and Splatterhouse (2010 ..read more

MS290 repaired on the Cheap!

My $25 MS290 actually ran very nicely when I brought it home, but, cosmetically, it was a basket case! I swapped out the cracked air filter cover with one I had from an MS390 parts saw. When I discovered that the front handle was also cracked, I swapped it out for the one from the 390, as well. The shroud covering the cylinder head was also damaged, but the 390 shroud is designed to accommodate a decompression valve and, therefore, was not a suitable replacement... Read more ..read more
