During our visit to FIMA last year, one of the machines that immediately caught our attention was the Samson TG20 (2-axle) slurry tanker. Upon arriving at the Durán Maquinaria Agrícola stand (the importer of the Samson brand for Spain), our eyes were quickly drawn to the imposing Samson slurry tanker, which conveyed a level of strength that few tanks on the market can achieve at first glance. Moreover, we were lucky enough to meet our friends Diego and Samuel from the Gala Merino livestock farm in Escalona del Prado (Segovia), who told us that they had recently bought it in its TG24 version. Gil short disc harrows
Twins Farm

A few weeks ago, the Spanish manufacturer Gil provided us with one of their disc harrows to test on different terrains, and we’ve had the opportunity to conduct the necessary trials on our farm. Before sharing our impressions, we would like to point out that Gil specialises in cereal seed drills, but for years they've also developed a strong line of sprayers and soil preparation implements. The fast harrows are one of the implements that have recently been added to its portfolio. As for the Gil short disc harrows, we could comment: There are from 3 to 6 metres working width. 24 discs (3m) to ..read more

Finishing cereal campaign. Baling days
Twins Farm
by Twins' Farm

As we mentioned in our previous post, we have closed a historic year with exceptional results, achieving yields we had never seen before. At the end of the season, the only task remaining is the baling of cereal straw (barley, wheat, triticale) and pulse vegetables (yeros and lentils). This work is normally carried out in our village by service companies from Murcia and some from Albacete. For many years now, for example, the Rosado Brothers (Bullas - Murcia) have been welcome here for baling the remains of the harvest. This year, other companies such as El Parra from Bullas, Murcia, and Soria ..read more

Cereal harvest. Extraordinary year
Twins Farm
by Twins' Farm

Throughout the year we have been recalling the disastrous cereal harvest of 2023 in every single job we have undertaken during this campaign. Even the post we dedicated last year to the harvest was entitled "Harvesting 2023. Annus horribilis". It truly was a year of very poor yields, resulting in significant economic losses. This year, the situation has been the exact opposite, culminating in a record harvest. I don't remember a year as bad as 2023 and we don't remember a year with such high returns as we have experienced in 2024. These days, with the cereal harvest practically finished, we ar ..read more

On May 28th, we attended the 6th stop of the Vario Drive PRO tour in Fuentes de Ebro (Zaragoza), organized by Fendt throughout Spain. It was a very interesting day, and we will now share more details with you. This type of event is increasingly being promoted by manufacturers such as John Deere with its Roadshow, Valtra with its SmartTour, Deutz-Fahr with its Deutz-Fahrmer Festival in Albacete and many more manufacturers. All these events aim to bring together a "small" group of farmers (around 300) to have a more personalised contact with them and inform them about all the new products and te ..read more

Starting harvesting season. Camelina
Twins Farm

At the end of October, we showed you the camelina sowing work. After months of caring for the crop, mainly aided by a fairly good amount of rainfall, the camelina is now ready to be harvested. With camelina, we start the 2024 harvest season . This season looks promising, as the weather has been favorable throughout the winter. Regarding to camelina, it's important to note that it is harvested with a combine harvester, making the process straightforward. The care and labour required for this crop is similar to those for pulse vegetables.  Our yields have been around 1,000 kg/ha , which is ..read more

Olive pruning. Things to bear in mind

In the middle of the olive pruning campaign, we pause our tasks to provide a summary of  our progress. Following the guidance of our advisor, Rafael Navarro, and drawing from our experience last year, we are currently engaged in pruning and shredding branches, with plans for a pre-flowering treatment to follow. Regarding pruning, we encounter three different scenarios: young olive groves, medium-sized olive groves and old olive groves. Each one needs to be pruned in a different way, which is explained below. Regardless of the age of the olive tree, the following basic concepts should alwa ..read more

Watching the tractor races on the Engine Age YouTube channel, we wonder about the engines will power each tractor... This curiosity sparked the idea of creating a small compilation showcasing the engines used by various tractor manufacturers, allowing us to compare and see what trends are emerging. It's important to note that this entry isn't intended for technical discussions about engines (that is already done by our friend Helio), but rather to provide a concise summary of the different engines on the market. In the following tables, we focus on engines used in medium and high horsepower tr ..read more

Sales of new agricultural machinery during 2023, in Spain
Twins Farm

As is the tradition every year, we show the data of the sales of new machinery in Spain during 2023, these data are extracted from the information published by the Ministry of Agriculture (the information is published monthly, you can see this information from here). It is a summary of the most interesting data in our opinion. Overall, the figures are generally worse than in 2022, which they were caused mainly by last year's severe drought. In any case, the lower figure is in line with the general trend of the average of recent years. The number of new tractors sold has decreased to 8,688 (10 ..read more
