Hybrid Cable Tether (cheap)
Reddit » Remotely Operated Vehicles

Hey all experts. Looking for cheap and available hybrid cable that I could use in my tether study. Needs to have 2x copper (power) conductors (V+ and GND) able to take high DC voltages (up to 300 preferably) and contains 2+ 125um single mode fibre optic cables. Length ideally 200-300m. Doesn't have to be rated for that depth as its a study but able to be submerged and used as a tether. Looking around but can't find any on the cheap apart from alibaba. Any suggestions on this type of cable and where could get it cheaply (6-10€/m or so) would be appreciated! Thank you!! submitted by /u/HMV_210 ..read more

Potential Fathom X Wiring

Hi, Got a small question. Would I be able to wire the fathom-x board in the following way, in order to reduce the amount of cables going into and from the rover to the surface. I am trying to avoid using a battery so the setup wont have one and the whole thing will be powered by the power supplied from the tether. Sorry for the bad drawing https://preview.redd.it/6eweeihkyftc1.png?width=1442&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c76fadcdd5d4e15bb2fa44a9983f1cb34c855c9 submitted by /u/ufocet [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

ROV (Qysea Fifish) - ideas for georeferencing?

Hello fellow ROV enthusiast, I just ordered a Qysea Fifish V6 Expert for my marine research project (no deeper than 10 m) and I would love to be able to geo-reference my underwater footage without spending money on underwater GPS. I was thinking to attach a line and surface buoy strapped with a GPS device and time-match later, however, I can't really figure out how to keep the connection tight at different depths. For some reason I had these dog leashes in mind that retract automatically but I am also unsure how much pull the ROV can handle. Maybe someone has done something similar or has a m ..read more

Hello, We are exploring the possibility of developing and producing our own Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) but have limited experience in this field. Our company provides solutions and services to the aquaculture industry in Norway. If there are any experienced ROV builders here who would be willing to share some insights, please feel free to contact us (DM) to discuss our plan further. Wishing you a pleasant day ahead. submitted by /u/Sindrello [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Guides for deep ROV builds?

Are there any guides on how to build an ROV that can work at significant depth (2000m/6600ft with pressures ~200atm/3000psi)? I imagine the methods of sealing for such depths change drastically... and I know nothing about increasing internal pressures as a response. Thanks! submitted by /u/Level_Up_IT [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

River of confusion about wiring a PixHawk, Raspberry, and 8 ESCs

Hello guys, I have no idea about ROVs, RCs, and such vehicles actually. I started working in this field just a week ago, and I am in love with it, but I am falling in black-holes of confusion, and I really have no idea about what I should do. I spent tens of hours doing researches and diving into seas of posts, comments, articles, and videos, and whenever I think that I reached some base, it turns out that I had a misunderstanding. It would be really nice if you can help me. I am making a 100m depth rated Rov. I want to put 8 thrusters in it probably T200s, which requires 32 Amps at full thro ..read more
