Once backup is older than your Move policy days setting. If I'm not mistaken, when Capacity Tier Move policy is enabled, Performance Tier immutability is automatically reduced accordingly to enable Move policy to actually function as it should and remove offloaded backups from Performance Tier. Thank you Fabian. To make it clear : when enabling both policies (copy + move), each new backup file will be copied to the capacity tier and will be removed from the performance tier once my matched retention/immutability period is reached ? Alexandre, I don't know why your 1st Governance mode bucket had some objects using Compliance mode. You should contact Veeam Support to have them analyze the VBR logs to identify why you saw this result. Your second test behaved as expected. Before you enable Governance mode in production, as I noted in the blog our "recommendation and best practice is to create a new VBR server that will use Governance mode". Thanks for reaching out. Object Storage as a Backup Target • VBR with governance mode, but one file in compliance mode

Hello, I'm currently implementing a S3-compatible solution in our datacenter. In my lab environnement, i have a VBR in v12.0, I created some bucket with WORM and versionning, and set immutability in the veeam repository. For the first backup job i tried, files are in compliance mode. I'm ok with this because in v12 we cannot use the governance mode (Maybe veeam helpcenter should mention it, i didn't see this information anywhere). So after I read this post : https://community.veeam.com/blogs-and-p ... art-7-6757 I upgraded my vbr from v12 to v12.1, created the registry key, create a new bu ..read more

Object Storage as a Backup Target • Re: backup weekly backup only to Azure blob

Hi bickyz, When using Scale-out Backup Repositories (SOBR) and Capacity Tier, the Data Transfer process is an automated one; Capacity Tier is an extension of Performance Tier, so the idea is to have automated copies and tiering of the data in the SOBR. Easiest way is to add a new Azure Blob Storage Repository and just do direct Backups or Backup Copies to this repository separately from your main job with a limited schedule. Hi Thomas Yes, the move policy will allow you to that. Please note, that with "move after 14 days", you will see restore points between 14-21 days on your performance tier. We can only move restore points after the chain gots inactive (after a new full was created). Additionally, I recommend to enable both policies. Copy + Move. This will allow you to immediately copy each restore point to the capacity tier instead of waiting 1 week. what we plan: performance tier : hardened Linux - 14 day immutability capacity tier (move after 14 days) : on premise s3 compatible - 365 day immutability Your ..read more

Hi, I am currently considering building a SOBR with immutability enabled to meet a customer's off-site backup copy needs and maybe use for other cloud tenants as well. After going over the documentation several times I am still unsure about the expected behavior in some areas, regarding mixing short retention, GFS, immutability with capacity tier in move mode (as in "using Hardened Repository in Capacity Tier" and "Immutability for Capacity Tier" sections). what is needed : 14 day "short" retention + 12 monthly GFS backups (as active full backups if possible rather than synthetic) we would li ..read more

Thank you for your information and sharing your experiences with these vendors. It is greatly appreciated. Just a note, I have had issues with our current S3 provider, some of which are similar to issues I have read in this thread. Our performance tier backups work very well now that I've cleaned up a lot of things, but we have an on-going issue with our capacity tier using S3 where objects don't delete on during the offload process or when I submit jobs for deletion where we no longer want restore/date outside of our organization. This has been going on for over a year and I thought I was th ..read more

Hi Ser I assume you are asking for port requirements and not "operating system permissions". Please see our user guide. Either the backup proxy server or gateway server (depends on your configuration) requires HTTPS access to the Azure Blob endpoints in Microsofts cloud: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... repository There is also the option to use Azure Blob Private Endpoints through a VPN connection. Let me know if you use that. Best, Fabian Statistics: Posted by Mildur — Wed Apr 24, 2024 2:28 pm ..read more

Object Storage as a Backup Target • Permissions for Objet Storage Azure Blob from VBR

I would like to check if there is any documentation that indicates what permissions the operating system where VBR runs must have to connect to an external Azure repository. My server is blocked from accessing the Internet but we want to give only the necessary permissions so that it can connect to the Azure Storage Account to connect the repository.
