I recently switched from Linux Mint to BigLinux (Manjaro) and I’m not able to add custom resolutions with xrandr, because every time I add it and my PC restarts it disappears, and I don’t know how to make it permanent, since in Biglinux I don’t have the .profile. … Help me 3 posts - 3 participants Read full topic ..read more

Screens not going to sleep after configured time when session is locked

I noticed that when I lock the session the screen does not ever go to sleep. So after searching the forum, I found this answer and placed it into a little script. The only change I made was not passing a session number (which should then take effect on the current session according to loginctl(1)). Anyway, this activates immediately upon locking the session that the screens turn off. Why then this question? Alas, eventually the screens will come back from sleep and I don’t know why or how. I have so far tried to rule out the mouse (by disconnecting it before locking the session) but have run o ..read more

Preface I’ve been using linux for 3 days so I’m basically an expert assume I know absolutely nothing. Timeline: I make snapshots before everything as well as daily. I make one just before enabling AUR I think maybe I should reboot Now my screen is stuck at 1024x768 I cannot change this. Drivers appear to be fine. As far as I can tell I’m still using the open source Nvidia drivers. So far I have tried: Turning monitor on/off. Several reboots. Restored snapshot. Restored earlier snapshot. Swap the which port the cable is plugged in. Swap cable from Display Port to HDMI. I don’t believe just enab ..read more

Should I uninstall xorg-server after switching to wayland
Manjaro Linux Forum » Graphics & Display

As in title. Or should I keep it? And is it even possible? Xwayland and xorg-server have as a dependency xorg-server-common. Doesn’t make any difference from security point of view if I have xorg installed or not if I am on wayland session? Can some attacker edit some files to make some apps run as xorg within wayland session in order to get what I type? Is there a way to list apps that use xwayland instead of wayland? If there are only some less relevant I could consider getting rid of xwayland completely. But does it make any sense? 5 posts - 4 participants Read full topic ..read more

What is the difference between libva-vdpau-driver and libva-nvidia-driver ? I have only installed the former and the installations are conflicting. I am using an Nvidia card with the proprietary driver and am experiencing screen tearing on Firefox, not elsewhere. Should I switch to try to solve my issue? 15 posts - 4 participants Read full topic ..read more

Hardware acceleration for firefox with proprietary nvidia drivers

I wanted to enable hardware acceleration as videos were lagging so I used this VA-API implemention using NVIDIA’s NVDEC. I compiled it changed the firefox config options and set the environment variable in my zsh config (except the __EGL_VENDOR_LIBRARY_FILENAMES as zsh states the file /usr/share/glvnd/egl_vendor.d/10_nvidia.json is not present even though it is present). Still it doesn’t work Video Engine Utilization is always at 0. NVD_BACKEND=direct NVD_LOG=1 IBVA_DRIVER_NAME=nvidia vainfo  ✔  50s  Trying display: w ..read more
