The fourth annual Black Maternal Health Week wrapped up April 17th and I am still reeling from everything I absorbed during that phenomenal week. It was enlightening, informative, it made you hold up a mirror to your own biases regardless of race and identity, and take inventory of your mental health. It made us take a deeper dive into what has shaped the psyche of Black culture. It explored exactly why Black birthing people are treated in the manner in which they are treated during the birthing journey, and it all comes down to mindset.
I attended as many sessions during the Black Maternal H ..read more

I’M CURRENTLY FEELING TOUCHED OUT ESPECIALLY DURING COVID-19, HERE’S WHY…
I’m everyone’s go-to person I’m the nurse, teacher, cook, housekeeper, entertainer, and the list could go on! We really can’t do much outside of the home & while I’m an active & creative mom (thanks to my daycare & preschool teacher experience) with the world in this state a girl is running out of ideas for a 2, 3, and 12 y/o. If you’re a mom you know exactly what I’m talking about. I also do a lot of skin to skin with the boys because they’re still nursing and it’s awesome bonding. I truly treasure the mome ..read more

Today concludes World Breastfeeding Week 2020 so I thought it’ll be the perfect day to share my experience breastfeeding a newborn in 2020, during a pandemic.
I’m breastfeeding my 4th baby while it’s become something I can do in my sleep I still face challenges everyday. There are times where I want to just give up even though I produce enough milk, breastfeeding is a labor of love and some days I’m just tired. Tired of on-demand feedings, dressing specifically for nursing and lack of sleep.
Then I remember why I started and why I chose to breastfeed my baby.
Most people are aware of the nutr ..read more

When I brought home my first child from the hospital, I thought to myself, “There is no way I will ever be this exhausted again.” Eighteen months later, smack dab in the middle of my husband’s combat deployment, I brought home my second beautiful child. It turned out that handling a newborn and keeping a toddler entertained on my own was a whole new level of exhaustion. I knew I needed to figure out a better way to do things, and fast! I needed a way to keep everyone, including myself, as happy as a newborn, toddler, and Mom alone in their home could be.
After a week or two filled with lots o ..read more

In my two years of #motherhood, I don’t think there has been a harder test than the test of not losing faith. In today’s world, we are facing the uncertain and for a mom that is terrifying. If I can be honest, I was faced with an ultimate challenge this week and the challenge is providing for my children to meet their needs.
When this virus broke out, we didn’t take it serious because it wasn’t affecting us but when it started to spread here, people went crazy. It wasn’t that I wasn’t prepared, I just couldn’t foresee wha ..read more
