Dry Dock Brewing Company has hired Rob Kent, formerly with California’s esteemed Bear Republic Brewing, to serve as Head Brewer for the Aurora, Colorado brewery. A professional brewer for over 20 years, Kent got his start at Utah’s Uinta Brewing and became head brewer there. He moved to BearRepublic in 2011 to become Brewing Manager and held that role until 2022. Over the past two years we’ve learned two troubling things. First of all, in the state where canned craft beer began, just 16% of aluminum cans are recycled in Colorado. More surprising was this: the plastic shrink wraps and adhesive labels that we and other craft brewers use are crushing the recycling benefits of the mighty aluminum can. On April 15 at its North Dock location, Dry Dock Brewing is presenting its first annual Nautoberfest. The event is a spring celebration of Dry Dock’s German-style beers and its annual Can Bash, and a showcase of over 25 local small-business vendors and selected charities from the Aurora area.
