ah, another mail order find which was clued to me by the fine Root Beer Hunters of America group!! this one has very little information on it anywhere. I have no idea ingredients, nutrition info, sweetener or really much else besides the names of the people who brewed it. sure, that is nice to know but I would like to have some further actual facts about the drink. well let me taste this one… that is tasty! a little bit of a unique flavor which seems to be licorice and that sets it apart. it is also quite sweet, I am curious to see the sugar content of it but alas, I cannot as noted earlier ..read more

Skinny Sticks Maple Root Beer

I feel like we are in a very good root beer time right now. for a while, there were loads of new sodas, then many went out of business and no new ones seemed to replace them but in the past couple of years there have been a load of new brands appearing. sure it could be that I just happen to be finding out about them more lately and it is a sort of ebb when I meet new people to trade with or who share info with me. granted I don’t think I have enough to go back to weekly reviews again. or at least not enough to last me terribly wrong. I do think I have about 15 or so new brews in my fridge r ..read more

there seems to be many more sodas in these tall skinny cans these days. I am guessing that being slender, they make people think they are a healthy choice, subconsciously or something? I don’t know. maybe it seems more fancy or sophisticated? or just unusual, which they of course are, even if they are becoming more prevalent. this brew I found out about from the Root Beer Hunters facebook group but oredred from Amazon. yes, I probably should have gotten it directly from the company to support them even more, but it is like $17 with subscribe and save on the Amazon for a four pack where it is ..read more

Fuddy Duddy’s Soda Works Sarsaparilla

I suspect this is a private label thing but there is not much indication of that. the label says “made exclusively for Fuddy Duddy’s confectionery” but not by who or explain further what that means. so I will just go on the assumption that it is a recipe exclusive to them. unfortunately the seal on this was not great so the carbonation is extremely low. I think I have a second bottle so I will have to try it again and update this if it is different. this is one of those drinks that really tastes more like a sweet tea that tries to pass as a root beer, or in this case a sarsaparilla. now, don ..read more

and the random brewery root beer find continue! I do believe I was tipped off about this one from the facebook Root Beer Hunters of America group, which I am again eternally grateful for. occasionally I will have the time and the will to scour the interwebs for new brews but both of those quantities seem to be in less and less supply these days so when others help out I am very thankful. the design of this one is fun and different. it reminds me of a botany field guide with drawings of what I assume are the plants that are in this beverage. actually I had not even thought of that until just ..read more

Beaver Buzz Energy Root Beer

I don’t often drink caffeine, even less rarely have energy drinks. in fact the only times I have had them were root beer ones that I was reviewing for this very site. ok, actually the first part is not exactly true. I DO have caffeine almost every saturday morning when I do my long brick workout and during longer races because of the athletic benefits of it. but I do not drink coffee or other such beverages to get going on the morning or keep me going every day or even every month. so because of all this caffeine affects me a bunch and I have to consume it early in the day or not sleep that ..read more

I feel like there is a new wave of craft root beers coming out these days. or perhaps I am just getting more word of such things as people come together on social media even more. or maybe there happen to be more that are canned or bottled lately. or some combination of all of the above, which is more likely really I think. in any case, I was lucky enough to obtain some of this root beer made by Crider Brewing in St Louis, MO. or maybe 2nd Shift Brewing? I’m not quite clear on that. I should probably call this ‘Crider Brewing Busy Bees Root Beer’ because of this but unless they come out with ..read more

I have gotten so many new sodas lately! I am tempted a bit to go back to weekly posts but I suspect this is just an extra good period and I will run out quickly again if I do such a thing. so I shall stay at every other week to be safe. I had a few people tell me about this one so I was excited to get it. plus I am a sucker for the whole aesthetic, kind of 60s sci fi style going on. there is a soda bottle shaped space shuttle sort of deal bursting through the clouds along with some polka dots and junk in the sky, perhaps indicating it is another planet entirely. good stuff. does the soda liv ..read more

yet again, they have tinkered with this one. well, actually it is now made by Sprecher, but it a different recipe than the one root beers they make. that seems a little weird acquisition to me, but perhaps not as Sprecher is a midwest brand and if they want to have a regional east coast brand this would be a fine way to do it. I guess. it might just be easier to sell Sprecher root beer out east, but I will trust their business doings much better mine as I have none and they have lots. I really have not had Old Brooklyn since I reviewed the last version a bunch of years back so I am going int ..read more

I was completely unaware they had changed the recipe of this brew until Robert messaged me and let me know. granted, it is not a huge change, but really anything is enough for it to qualify as a new root beer in my book. as I recall, the previous version was pretty good, rather unusual. as they removed the roasted barley malt, that seems like this would be better since that does not sound like a tasty addition to root beer. hhhmmm, this is not bad. interesting for sure still. nothing really overpowers the overall flavor but I can taste the anise, licorice and mint all in there as well as the ..read more
