Hi I’m looking to get a telescope for my apartment in NYC I’m a bit worried that I won’t be able to see much because of smog and other issues that I may have being in a big city.
I’m looking to spend ~$250 on my first telescope and was looking at the Orion Observer 134mm Equatorial Reflector Telescope.
Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Today, for the first time since November that I got this 12" dob, I'll take out to a Bortle 3/4 sky, rather than using it on my backyard (Bortle 6).
Previously, I have taken out to that Bortle 3/4 my 8" dob, but this will be the first time with the 12", I'm excited!
I'm currently cooling it down, I hope to stay out for most of the night :)

Planning to head out a little bit to capture the moon today. It's at 25% (Waning Crescent). I would be watching from light polluted skies (sad) with my 8 inch Dob. I was wondering if I could get a glimpse of Saturn as well, as you can see its extremely close to Moon, or would the brightness of the moon along with light pollution make it unfeasible to view?

I was recently looking through the catalogue of the store where I bought my telescope, and I saw that they were also offering domes in varying sizes, from 2m in diameter up to 5,5m. This might seem like a very basic question, but what is the actual purpose of a dome? Does installing one have any other advantage apart from not having to dissasemble the telescope when not in use? It also looks like there is not a lot of space in the smallest ones, so that makes me wonder if domes are more suitable for certain types of telescopes, like a catadioptric one for example, where the eyepiece is in the ..read more

I’ve started logging by hand and most of the red headlamps on Amazon play up how many Lumens they have, and I want something very dim.
Any recommendations?
