64 Malibu custom

I love mid-60's GM styling. I had been after a 64 Malibu for quite some time and finally got one in a trade with my friend Chuck Darnell. This is what I started with. Despite the brushed on house paint (including on the tires  ? ) I was excited to have one to work with. This was about 5 years ago, well before Round2 announced they were retooling the kit. I tried stripping the paint with several different methods (Super Clean, 91% Alcohol, Citrus Strip, over cleaner, and lastly Easy Lift Off) Here is where I finally gave up. The black paint that is left is pretty much part of the pla ..read more

New project I am working on. The interior is comprised of a "tub" like many old kits. These tubs end up looking too shallow. So I cut away the bottom. Then cut away the hump for the drive-train and glued that to the top of the floor pan and built that up with plastics and bondo. So now it looks like a more realistic depth once its assembled. Will change the bucket seats to a bench seat. Might do a little "what if"ing and build it as a four speed. I dont believe wildcats could be ordered with one at that point in time ..read more

My 1986 Dodge Ram 50

Currently building a replica of the 86 Ram 50 I had in the late 80's while in the Navy. Will be mostly stock, wheels and bumpers are sprayed with Revell Chrome, wheels are from the Wild Hoss Bronco, tires are from the Country Charger. Tonneau cover is a piece of craft cardboard sprayed with plasti-dip. I had the quad headlight version, have a resin grill on order from spencer1984 on Shapeways, that will also be painted red, my truck had a silver grill when I purchased it but I painted it red soon after. I seem to remember the air cleaner being that odd green color but not 100%, so that's ..read more

AMT 1957 Thunderbird

My wife asked me to build a 1957 Thunderbird next. I opened the box and I have to say I am really not happy with what I have to start with. I knew the top wasn’t good so I already purchased a resin top from Drag City Castings, but the chassis is not something I would be happy with. Anyone know of a donor chassis I might look for? I was thinking maybe the 1956 AMT Thunderbird? Those I don’t think are as easy to find. Maybe I will find a rebuilder or junker at the So Cal Open show this weekend.  As always it will get as much detailing I can stand for the quality of the kit and LED lighting ..read more

1971 Dodge Demon 340

I have been chasing this model kit since my birthday in February! And since I needed to buy some paint at Hobby Emporium, they had three of these on the shelf and I grabbed one. The MPC small block 340 does look like it is a tad small compared to an AMT 340 small block (I have two). I plan on building this Demon 340 with the hood scoops, Cragar SS mags, no rear spoiler and stock decals. I can understand why some are using the AMT '71 Duster 340 as a donor kit or replacing the small block 340 engine ..read more

63 Chevy II Wagon

This will be first ever WIP thread. Hopefully I remember to take pictures along the way. I work on models in fits and spurts, so there may be a few days between updates. I am building the AMT 63 Chevy II wagon. I am working on using the custom wheels and tires from the Revell 65 stepside Chevy. I had to add pieces of sprue inside to make new "hubs" for the kit metal axles. This is my first go at anything other than an OOB build. Mocked up, I think I am happy with the stance.   ..read more

While sourcing parts for another project and waiting for paint to cure on others, I dug up this older build. After emptying out my Evergreen half round plastic supply and gluing in the individual pleats (two hundred and forty-three pieces total)  , I had to set this build aside. Picking it back up. The second picture shows the stock kit interior and also the interior after tuck and roll pleats were applied. got 327 and six strombergs.mp4 ..read more
