People In Need of Delaware County has seen a large increase in the number of people served due to rising costs. Mallory Sribanditmongkol, PIN’s director of community engagement, said last week that the food pantry is serving 400 families a week, and the number of people served increased by 56% from first quarter 2023 to first quarter 2024. Sribanditmongkol reported PIN provided 158,864 meals from January to March of this year. “Our mission at People in Need, Inc. is to provide relief to our neighbors in their time of need,” Sribanditmongkol said. “Since 1981, we have served as a safety net to ..read more

A day of wonder to be remembered

What a day to be remembered! When I first heard about the eclipse, I pictured something like the one we had seven years ago. As the days came close I thought of the nearby towns flooded with thousands and even millions of people. Though I knew better, I imagined what it would be like, should there have been a mistake and no eclipse would come to capture the attention of spectators across the line of fire. We as a church planned a fish fry in the evening, after watching the rare event of total alignment of sun, moon, and earth. Monday morning dawned beautiful and sunny, I couldn’t help but feel ..read more

I had an amazing opportunity to attend an International Symposium on Family Court Reform. Only 35 Domestic relations and family law judges from around the world were invited to attend the symposium. The symposium was hosted by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. The symposium was beneficial as it created a conversation between Domestic relations judges in different parts of the world to discuss issues that affect all of us and to identify ways to improve Domestic relations courts. After the symposium, we were in ..read more

Flicking boogers. Through years of working with people — many people, I’ve noticed this habitual pattern: Nonprofits, faith communities, and corporations (humanity) often flick people with difficult behaviors and situations off to others with referrals, deflecting or excuses related to fit. To be fair, this happens in relationships and even intimate family systems, too. It’s rare in these times of slick branding, quick texts, and online perceptions to have people or systems that go the long haul with you in healing, recovery, change, transformation or anything that goes below this surface leve ..read more

The Delaware Hayes softball team tossed its second no-hitter of the week, this time courtesy of Hannah McAllister en route to a lopsided 10-0, five-inning win over visiting Franklin Heights Thursday night. It was the Pacers’ (14-4-1) ninth straight victory. It also bumped their league record to a perfect 11-0. McAllister was dominant … facing 16 batters and striking out 12 of them. Kami Pelletier-Harris, meanwhile, led the charge from the dish, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Other standouts included Bronwynn Leighty, who had a pair of hits; Lizzy Gould, who knocked in ..read more
