I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review. After the slow progression journey we experienced in Guardian, I was eager to get back to this series and see the beginnings of the war to come. What we have here is a heart racing penultimate novel which delivers the action and bloody battle scenes just hinted at in book one. Its petal to the metal all the way up until the brutal ending. Longtime fans of John Gwynne will love where the story is heading and I can’t wait to see where the chips fall. This will be a spoiler free review but I will be discussing scenes ..read more

The world of Mira will be changed forever. The events of the past will have consequences for today and all the creatures who inhabit the world will never be the same. Yara is on a quest to discover the truth of her heritage and she will not like what she finds. One of the most frustrating (in the best possible way) novels I have ever read and I will get into the in details in the review. A trilogy which is quickly jumping up my rankings for the emotions and gut punches that follow. This will be a spoiler free review but I will be touching upon events from the previous novel. In order to be put ..read more

Introduction I want to begin by saying thank you to Blaise for kindly allowing me space on his website to talk about my latest project. Blaise was one of the very earliest reviewers to pick up on and champion my first novel, Hall of Bones, when no one else had even heard about it. I really was flying under the radar back then, and this was an important step for me in trying to find my audience. It even led to celebrated author Janny Wurts providing the back cover quote for my book! Doomstalker by Glen Cook (Darkwar Trilogy #1) Although not the most enticing plot there is alot to like here. Marika is a huntress in a land where the females hold powers over the tribes while the men are the builders and become trades people. While the tribes hunt and prepare for the brutal winter ahead there is a threat of power hungry and mad Nomads from the North lead by a Silth witch gone mad. The Silth are a group of female witches who posses the power to control things with their minds and enter the spirit realm. Every year the tribes of the meth need to pay tribute in the form of chil ..read more

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review. I do not read Young Adult fantasy novels very frequently as I prefer more adult themes and characters. The fact that I devoured The Unmarked Girl in one day, reading chapter after chapter as I needed to see where the story will go, speaks volumes for how talented I believe this author is. The Unmarked Girl is a wonderful and unique story that blends fantasy and a touch of sci-fi into a fast paced plot, that it won’t matter who the target audience is. Winner of the Burt Award for Caribbean Young Adult Literature Awa ..read more

At long last we have arrived at the finale for The Wars of Light and Shadow series by Janny Wurts. A series thirty years in the making since book one The Curse of The Mistwraith was first published in 1993 and according to Janny, fifty years since the idea first came to her brilliant mind. Through my friendship with Janny and relentless support for this series in the blogging sphere, I was gracious enough to be put on Janny’s beta team to read this epic conclusion. The time has finally come for me to talk about it as Song of The Mysteries will be released in May 2024. When this is all said and ..read more

Sometimes I find myself in a little bit of a reading funk every now and then. Skimming the first few pages of prospective stories with nothing grabbing my attention until I came across The Crescent Moon by E.J. Doble. A novella taking place in a desert city of Arbash once inhabited by The Prophets many years ago but have now gone missing. A story of discovery and faith shrouded in the mystery of the universe unknown. Sometimes there are no answers to find but we keep on searching. My’ala is a young girl trying to make her parents proud and all she wants on her birthday is to walk outside the w ..read more

I was fortunate enough to meet author Stephen Donaldson in person at the ICFA convention last year and I was eager to read one of his works very soon. The convention had a massive collection of older and newer novels and The Real Story was the first book I grabbed. Stephen was gracious enough to sign my copy and I have been waiting for a good time to dive into this well known sci-fi series but I was not prepared. I love reading dark fiction in all formats, but fans on Donaldson know how he can turn a story down a path of no return while still having you invested in the characters with the choi ..read more

Guest Blog Post – Synopsis for A Few Days More by Z.B. Steele

About the book: For A Few Days More (FAFDM) is a multi-POV grimdark novel that runs on the shorter side. It’s got bloody fights, quippy and foul-mouthed dialog, badass women, and themes of redemption and escaping the past. The book is focused on two main protagonists: Roth, a caravan guard trying to escape a dark past and Cynthia, a young bandit trying to form a dark future. Both of them travel through the countryside of The Hinterlands with tarnished souls and a penchant for death, all the while a man in a red cloak tracks them. Inspirations: The major influences I quote are Joe Abercrombie ..read more
