Sorry for the pause in-between blog post everyone…. This time of year I am guiding just about every single day weather pending of course… Anyways, here it is!!:) it's springtime again I think! haha!  Even though it's been an interesting winter  this year, most of the fish will hopefully still be following their normal patterns. The fish that did push back into warmer waters will be heading back out to the grass-flats looking for a good meal. Redfish-   Although you will still see a lot of singles and doubles hanging out, be sure to look for them to be g ..read more

Every year during the month of October… I like to call it “The Hunt for Red October”. The reason for this is because it is probably the best month in our area to catch not only lots of redfish but, you also have the chance of catching a trophy size redfish!! These fish are one of the coolest looking, hardest fighting species that you can catch inshore in SW Florida. Hence their reddish bronzy looking colors gives them the name redfish. They are a part of the drum family due to the drumming sounds that they make to communicate to each other.    These fish spend a lot of time in schoo ..read more

Hot and Wet!!

Now that one of the hottest months of the year has passed, fishing can be quite productive if you follow the summer patterns…  With extremely high water temps this time of year, getting out on the water before day break can really make a difference in having an ok day of fishing to having an outstanding day! At daybreak I always start out throwing a search bait like a Yo-Zuri 3D Inshore Pencil “top-water lure”. Search bait such as these will help you locate the fish when it is still pretty difficult to see outside.  Also, it doesn’t get much better than hearing or seeing the ..read more

Hunting for Redfish!!!

Redfish are the ultimate fish! I’ve caught them everywhere from super fresh water to pure saltwater. I’ve seen them feeding in water so shallow that their bodies are halfway out of the water and also in the deep ocean waters. The way their mouths are located almost on the bottom of their face with huge crushers in their throats helps them take down their main diet of crustaceans, but don’t be surprised if you see them slurping a decent size fish off the top of the water.      This time of year, huge schools of bull redfish are here and on the prowl for their next meal. September Tarpon here and almost gone!!!

September is here and that means fall is right around the corner. As we look forward to each day being just a little bit cooler than the next, the fishing will begin to pick up as well. With water temps starting to cool down this gives many of our fish a little more energy to expend hunting for their next meal. They also know they have to feed heavily over the next couple of months so that they will be fattened up before winter when their meals can become fewer and farther between. Redfish- This is an incredible month for one of my favorite species! Redfish will be schooled up in huge numbers ..read more

Catch and Release…

If you are reading this… you are most likely an avid angler or at the very least you enjoy fishing! Ever since the beginning of May, there has been a ban on harvesting 3 of our favorite game fish “Redfish, Snook, and Trout” here in the SW Florida region due to the previous year’s redtide “fish kill”. Unfortunately, it has had lots of anglers and fishing guides very upset. Many of us were raised that if you didn’t catch your limit that it wasn’t a successful fishing trip… but, I think that we really do need to change our way of thinking. Trust me I do enjoy a fresh catch every now and then, b ..read more

Summertime Fishing in SW Florida

Well, we just got some either excellent news for some of us and not so great news for others… They have officially closed Snook, Redfish, and Trout in our area until next year due to the previous year’s redtide. Although these fish are delicious to eat, I feel they made the correct decision.  Now with everybody practicing catch and release, and all of the other things going on to help our fish recovery, I think things will begin to change for the better soon. Although, this doesn’t mean that you can’t still go out there and have fun catching and releasing these species!  This time o ..read more

Fishing with artificial lures...

Anyone who knows me will tell you that when it comes to inshore fishing I am an artificial only type guy, whether it comes to soft-plastics, hard-baits, or flies. I have full confidence that if you use the right one of these artificial baits at the right time you can trigger most inshore game-fish to eat. Fish are opportunist and will eat just about anything that crosses their path in the right circumstances. I’ve even seen redfish caught on jalapeno peppers and eat plain jig-heads with nothing on them! The main thing you are trying to achieve with any artificial bait is the silh ..read more

Trout Bite is HOTTT!!!

The water temps are down and the red tide is subsiding. I love this month because we still have the cooler temps but there will be spurts of spring coming soon. This also is one of my favorite months to target big “Gator” trout (Speckled trout) here on the southwest coast of Florida. Their giant yellow fanged mouths make them one of the most optimized predators in our waters. They are sleek, beautifully spotted, and have a rainbow iridescent glow to them. This helps them blend into their surroundings on the grass flats and gives them a great advantage.      My number one w ..read more

Kayak Fishing...

Well here we are with a fresh new year. Maybe it’s time to get out on the water and try something new... like maybe kayak fishing! Fishing from a kayak can be one the best ways to target many different types of fish. In my area the three main species that I love to target from a kayak while inshore fishing are snook, redfish, and trout. The fourth would be the tarpon but, they can be harder to target in the cooler months. Of course there are also many other types of fish to catch like jacks, flounder, pompano, cobia, etc… But most of the time they are caught as a bi catch unless ..read more
