A fair bit of rain forecast for the week ahead. I might just do a lot of Zwift workouts. I'm starting to smash myself on long, high intensity over/under intervals at the moment. When I've done one of those I don't feel like doing any other riding. I'm trying to drag my FTP up. Statistics: Posted by g-boaf — Sat Apr 27, 2024 12:35 pm ..read more

Hi everyone! Long time listener, second time poster; I'm what I'd describe as a high country bike-hiker. I ride to a lot of trail heads and then go walking. I'm a larger guy, and with my camping gear anything about a gentle grade of ascent turns my ride into a slog. I've recently built myself a folding Ebike with the intention of taking it on Vline coaches all over Vic to get to the places I couldn't in the past, either due to fitness or Vline policy on carrying non-folding bikes. But the more I look at my wishlist of destinations, the more I find places in Eastern Vic that are beyond the re ..read more

Registered to remark that this info above about the Benambra Hotel is pretty out of date. At some point the pub lost it's food license, and then changed hands. The new publican is pretty hospitable; rooms are cheap, backpacker style. Meals are really good, but at city prices, and it's possible to pay $15 or so for shower access. I personally camp elsewhere in town, but have put friends up there, but I think paying for a shower means you can camp in the backyard of the pub if there's no big event on. They're closed Monday nights, but if you call ahead it can be possible to make a room booking ..read more

Perfect conditions here in Melbourne today to close out the sailing season. Top temperature around 20 deg, light to moderate breeze which turned out better than forecast - expected a very light 5-6 knots or even less, but started in 7-8kt which built to a deliciously perfect 11-12kt through the afternoon. Although it has cooled noticeably over the past 4-6 weeks, the water temperature is still pretty mild at 17.4 degrees, so I was quite comfortable in my lightweight gear of wetsuit shorts, thin wetsuit surf top & spray jacket, not needing the heavier full steamer wetsuit. SPD. Retro or not, they're walkable and reliable. Flats are fine too. Or go true to the era and get some Look PP66 delta pedals and enjoy the best clipless pedals known to man (at the time). Statistics: Posted by familyguy — Sat Apr 27, 2024 8:16 am ..read more

Brake funnel adapter worked a treat. 105 hydros on, filled, bled and working. Might even put the bar tape on the bike tomorrow. So that's one more of the non-functional bikes back working. Pulled the quill stem out of the Gazelle, cleaned it, put it back in. Creak resolved. Statistics: Posted by familyguy — Sat Apr 27, 2024 8:10 am ..read more

I'm not so sure, yes retro might be important, but wouldn't usability and practicality be the deciding choice in something as fundamental as the pedals? I find clipless pedals and cleats practical for commute riding - they feel a lot more secure especially if I need to put down a lot of power quickly. Up to you if that's more important than keeping the retro style. Statistics: Posted by g-boaf — Sat Apr 27, 2024 6:49 am ..read more
