I’m restoring - slowly my 1949 Claud Butler closed circuit bike. So far so good. However I’m putting a new gear change lever onto the boss on the frame. The threaded retaining screw from the donor clamp on bracket isn’t the same thread as the boss? Does anyone know what thread this could be please ..read more

After looking for one for a long while I finally found an unmolested Nishiki Cresta (sold as a Repco in Australia) being sold by the original owner. This one is in great condition for a 39 year old bike, importantly it has the Suntour driveline intact including the Mountech 3 pulley rear derailleur. I won't be changing much from original apart from the seat and pedals that I've already swapped. It's just a lovely bike I'm happy to preserve ..read more

Hi all, any tips on figuring out the true diameter of a Prestige der, the Delrin body? I have looked at several on the bay and when I ask the seller to measure they always seem to come back with "oh, it is 27.0 not 28.6". I am waiting on one from France but until I have it in my hands I won't believe it. He said yes it is 28.6. I sent two back and broke one trying to make it fit. Not a good idea with 50 year old plastic. Thanks Tom in Wellington, Co ..read more

I would just like to know what a typical length for a cottered spindle is for single chainring (Williams C34) and fixed-gear. The bike is a 1959 Claud Butler, so nothing unusual. I am thinking 120-121mm. Is that correct ..read more
