You might be surprised to hear this, but, yes, they do!
The guinea pig (cuy) is a species of rodent that's part of the genus Cavia in the family Caviinae. There are at least five currently recognised wild species of guinea pig, including the Brazilian cavia aperea. This species can be found across South America in countries such as Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. There's also the Andes-dwelling montane guinea pig (cavia tschudii).

The popularity of guinea pigs has seen a significant rise in recent years, with their population more than doubling to 900,000 by the end of 2022 (that’s more than the population of Leeds!) and we think this trend is likely to continue as our furry little companions become more popular.

SHOULD I INSURE MY GUINEA PIGS?
We were inspired to write this post following the recent findings of the Burgess Guinea Pig Census. There were some encouraging results about the general care and wellbeing of guinea pigs, but we were struck by the statistic that only 3% of those surveyed had their guinea pigs insured.
