Today my flatmate had to make the hard decision to put Kira to sleep... so at 3pm she was given her wings She was diagnosed on Monday with Liver Disease but went downhill very quickly and by this morning she was just sleeping and wasnt moving. In the early hours of last Sunday morning we had to say goodbye to Odin, just a week short of his 15th birthday.  A year ago Odin’s back legs started to get weak. He did hydrotherapy and acupuncture which helped a lot. But recently he lost the use of his front legs as well. He was still bright, alert and interested in everything. Keisha had her spleen removed 4 weeks ago. She had a haemangiosarcoma that ruptured, causing a big intra-abdominal bleed. She survived the bleed, and the surgery. A week after the splenectomy, she chased and caught a big black rat in the backyard. Phuck I love this dog! There's nothing like an old family red American Pitbull terrier when it comes to indomitable.   But, she is not indomitable this time. Dogs just don't come back from haemangiosarcoma. It seems like so many years ago that I came across DOL and through it got Tonka at 3 years of age. DOL helped me become an informed and resourceful dog owner.  Today I had to let Tonka go. I knew it was time at nearly 17 years old to release him from his failing heart. This is my first time as an adult and the heartbreak is real. I am holding his collar alot and got really physically sick this morning for a number of hours.  I can't believe he has gone. I very rarely come in here as I can't really cope but I wanted to make a post for Sonny. He is the reason I found this forum so many years ago and he was so very special.   I got him from the pet shop before I knew they were dodgy. Of course I picked the runt of the litter, just thought he needed a bit of feeding up and TLC! Genie, our almost 14 year old Golden Retriever, passed away last month.   Genie was diagnosed with nasal adenocarcinoma in January 2020. The vets recommended palliative care since she was already 12 years old at that time. But that would have given her just two months. The tumour was already 7cm and had breached the cranial wall.    But I wasn’t ready to let her go. She was otherwise very healthy and active.  Yesterday morning Lacey passed away. I knew it was coming as she had CHF but my heart is shattered into a million pieces  3 1/2 months ago I had to say goodbye to Sasha and now Lacey  I loved her so much ... she was bossy, she was sassy , she had opinions especially when it came to telling us when she wanted dinner or when she decided it was bedtime.
