This is beautiful. A vet has a candle in his waiting room. It is only lit when a pet is being euthanized. It lets the other pet owners know so they can be quietly respectful. It is a hard time for any pet owner, but having others know about it and maybe even saying a kind word, would help a little bit. Ruby was rescued from a shelter at 8 months old. She had been returned by 5 families who found her too lively. She went on to work as a police K9 for 11 years.  Netflix made a movie about her called Rescued by Ruby.  In 2017 she rescued an injured teenaged boy who was lost in the woods on a hike. He was the son of the shelter volunteer who advocated for Ruby when she was a too lively young dog at the shelter. She was honored as Search and rescue Dog of the Year for the rescue. This is a Rainbow Bridge post for three brave Ukrainian volunteers who died to help dogs. Many blessings to these three determined and brave people: Anastasiia Yalanskaya, 26, Serhiy Ustymenko, 25 and Maxym Kuzmenko, 28. On Thursday they managed to deliver dog food to a shelter near Kyiv, where the dogs had been without food for three days, when their car was deliberately targeted with heavy weaponry by Russian troops. Hope this is allowed!!  I volunteer for a horse rescue and animal sanctuary, one day this beautiful soul fell out the transport trailer and stole my heart!! I never thought I would have a horse again but quickly I bonded with him, he could hardly breathe (thats why we named him Darth (Vader)) and it looked like his hoof would fall off.. We tried everything, I walked him for hours on end, but we lost him to colic within 24 hours. I just hope it meant as much to him to have a human again, even if only for one day, as it did to me to have a horse again. A kind hearted vet always has a special treat for dogs that are being euthanized. She gives them some chocolate, a treat that dogs love, but are not allowed to eat.  She tries to make a dogs last moments special. Other people have admitted to doing the same thing. They work to make the last moments good ones.  Sometimes the end has come and there is nothing more that can be done. I had so many plans to post about Boo. I thought I had lots of time.  He has been growing up very fast and he was due to be neutered today.  Yesterday he seemed to realize he was going to the vet again and he got very stressed. This morning he got in with Boris the guinea pig and I ended up leaving him there. When I got home he was not okay. I think now he had already had a heart attack. The Toronto Zoo has just lost one of its oldest original residents, Josephine the Gorilla.  She was 49 years old and that is a good age for a gorilla. She was much loved by us all.  She was a real character. My beautiful Black and white Colombian Tegu Barrie is gone.  These last weeks he has been failing. He was losing weight and he just lost interest in food. He was an old lizard who had a poor start in life. His body just gave out.  He was barely breathing and he didn't seem too aware.
