A new film has caused controversy in recent days due to its inclusion of a Sikh Soldier shown shoulder-to-shoulder with other British troops. An accusation has been made by Actor Laurence Fox; that the inclusion of a Sikh Soldier was nothing more than diversity gone mad. Stating the inclusion of a single Sikh soldier amongst thousands of white counterparts causes ‘a very heightened awareness of the colour of someone’s skin’ due to ‘the oddness of the casting’. SSO invited to attend 75th VJ Event

On 15th August 2020 Mirfield Town Council along with their partners in the Mirfield Royal British Legion held a service to mark the 75th Anniversary of Victory over Japan(VJ) Day when World War Two was brought to a close. The event was attended on behalf of SSO by President (Kalvinder Bhullar) and Treasurer (Jagjit Sodhi) which took place at  Ings Grove park, in Mirfield Town Centre where social distancing was observed. Crowds gather at statue honouring Sikh soldiers. HUNDREDS of people attended the unveiling of a new statute in honour of Sikh soldiers who fought in both World Wars. The six-foot statue in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, is the first in Yorkshire to honour the sacrifice of British Indian Sikh soldiers, and comes after years of fundraising.
