A Riverton man had a rare and bizarre standoff with a coyote while elk hunting over the weekend. The wily critter barked belligerently and kept getting closer – but finally backed off before the hunter decided to open fire.

Tuesday evening right at dark My wife says pigs! Right down the shootin lane behind my house about 160 yards. Grabbed my rifle and lines two up and squeezed off. Two pigs hit the ground but one got up and ran off.
I decided i would look for the other one the next day. Followed decent blood for about two hundred yards til i found where the pig had gone backed to rootin!
i said well must be a leg hit so i quit lookin.

I made 5 stands yesterday starting at around noon. My timing was probably off a bit, but nonetheless.
The areas I hunted have very high coyote #'s and are not easy to access. I would not expect them to be heavily pursued, but that is an assumption.
Maybe it's common, but not something i expected. My first stand, while not your average predator, a group of three Blue Jays came to the call. Not sure if they are predatory or not. You could definitely tell they were keyed in on the rabbit...
