Danger of legionnaires disease from misting spray heads

Warm, standing water can promote legionella growth. Breathing legionella infected water in mist / aerosol form can cause legionnaires disease (potentially life threathening). Using Rainbird 1800/3500 series with their nozzles, the water gets misted essentially. Walking around closely and breathing while the system is running (with legionella water): what are the dangers, if any? submitted by /u/PostyMcPostFace_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Disclaimer: I have never dealt with sprinkler systems, but I am an appliance repair tech for what that's worth. I have a 6 zone sprinkler system with 5-6 sprinkler nozzles on each zone. The system had not been turned on in about a year. 3 days ago we decided to test it. It was mostly fine, except a few nozzles and one of the sprinklers needed replacing. Ever since that first test the water pressure in the sprinklers keeps dropping. Today it's non-existent. Obviously the first thing I did was find, dig out and check the solenoids. Those seemed to have no issue. I took the whole valve apart ..read more

Irrigation plan - is it fine?

Hi all, I hope this is the right place to ask. I have a small garden where I would like to do an automated irrigation system from Gardena. I would like to install it on my own and I was advised to try the Gardena planner. I used the automatic tool for generating sprinklers but that created a crazy amount of sprinklers and I do not think that is necessary. So I came up with this plan. Does it sound right? For the lawn I would use the OS 140 rectangle sprinklers, in total amount of 4. I have only one tap and no electricity nearby so my choice of computer is (and I already have it and used i ..read more

Very confusing leak situation

I have a dedicated meter for irrigation only. Over the winter I used 0 irrigation and my Rachio shows no use. My water bills for Dec, Jan, Feb, March show various usage and the meter confirms it. Currently with water at the meter turned on, and Rachio off, no water is being consumed (no active pipe leak). I check it randomly maybe twice a day and log the meter. It’s randomly showing usage, some days it none, some days it’s a little. Again, Rachio shows no usage. I have a few wet spots on my property but I’ve always believed them to be due to poor drainage management which needs French dr ..read more

Spring startup?

I turned on my lines yesterday for spring and immediately had water blasting out all 3 nipples on top. Should some type of screw caps be covering these? I’ve never had this issue before. Also both those valves were open. Should 1 be closed? I’ve used the faucet at the end of the line in previous summers with no issue… submitted by /u/Consistent_Amount140 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hunter Hydrawise sucks

7 hours ago I got a notification on my phone Hydrawise was cancelling todays irrigation due to high rainfall that occured yesterday/last night. Great. We did get 1.8" of rain between yesterday afternoon and midnight. But for whatever reason, between sending that notification and the beginning of the scheduled run times, it dropped its internet connection. Despite that it's 42* outside (it's been a low in the 60's) it's irrigating at the default, because, no internet connection. There's no notification setting (that I've been able to find) that alerts me that the controller is offline and I sw ..read more

Pump problems

So i turned on my irrigation pump for the first time this year and it just makes a humming noise. People keep telling me i need to prime the pump but i don't see anywhere to put water in other than the hose connector up top. There's a water tank attached... Maybe i need to fill that up. Not really experienced in this area. Here's a picture of the unit. Any advice would be appreciated. https://preview.redd.it/2axnp859umyc1.png?width=929&format=png&auto=webp&s=5632dfaed620da1316950d162f151bccf5e3f489 submitted by /u/GarySparkle [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is there a way to be confident these won’t leak?

Installing valves on my new sprinkler system today. Instructions say to hand tighten only. I’m nervous they will leak once pressurized, and at that point there will be no way to tighten them, right? Seems like I’m just rolling the dice… submitted by /u/Existe1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
