Amazingly Sid's grandson contacted me after seeing a post I made searching for this tree on Growing Fruit forum. Sid passed away a few years ago, but his grandson sent scions from his tree. I've 5 on standard rootstock now. Statistics: Posted by Merle Hawggard — Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:42 pm ..read more

Hi all just joined the group and hoping someone might be able to help me with some information on some lost/rare Scottish Heritage Apples I'm trying to gather information on. I've been researching Scottish Heritage Apples and come across the following names below and do have some information on some but on others have found nothing other than the names listed in books. I've heard some people believing these could be hidden away in an orchard or garden somewhere so if anyone comes across any labels with this it would be appreciated. Has anyone else gone searching for any lost Heritage Apples o ..read more

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and hoping someone out there might be able to help me ID and apple I found growing in a park/natural area near my home in north central Washington state. The tree is in an area that was previously orchard (lots of old orchards around here) and appears to be a remnant stump or sucker from a tree that was ripped out years ago. I have some photos but haven't yet figured out how to attach/insert them just yet. Until then, hopefully my description will help. A few characteristics of the tree: - small sprawling habit - seems to tend towards biennial production - diseas ..read more

Hi, There are dozens of red-fleshed apple varieties available. Some more readily so than others. Albert Etter's breeding in the late 1800's and early 1900's produced several including 'Grenadine' which is one of the varieties that Steve at Sklicult uses He uses other varieties of Etter's apples as well. See interesting information on Albert Etter at Greenmantle Nursery website. They offer Etter scion wood. Wickson, Niedwetzkyana, Mountain Rose, Robert's Red, Redfield, Crimson Gold, a host of others, and all of the Redlove apples are all red-fleshed.
