Hi all just wanted your thoughts, just racked 18 bottles of my first hard ciders 1 pure apple, 1 vimto. If my hydrometer readings are up to spec. The vimto is 5.7% and the apple.....well I managed to break my trial flask (because I'm a clumsy bugger). Both brews were I. 5 gallon demijohns with just apple juice yeast and vimto, didn't add any teabags yet just wanted to see what the brew tastes without. Left for 10 days until the airlock bubbling has calmed down. The vimto cider bottles (all... Read more ..read more

Parsnip wine not clearing

I started a 2 gallon brew of parsnip wine on 2/1/24 Fermentation was in a plastic FV before transferring to the glass demi johns. I filled one demi john but did not have enough to fill the second; so added a liter of apple and ginger juice form the supermarket to make up the difference. Fermentaion has gone well and now finished. The first demi john is very clear but the one with the apple and ginger juice is still cloudy. Any thoughts on clearing it? Finings? Or should I not bother and... Read more ..read more

I don’t normally copy recipes, but this looked intriguing! Mojito Kilju from CS Mead channel. Mine is slightly different to theirs, as I don’t agree with some of their methods. Here is what I put in mine:- 1.2kg granulated sugar 2 x packets fresh mint (leaves only) Zest and juice of one lime. Yeast Nutrient (plenty!) This is what it looks like! Pond water at the moment, but apparently it turns out fantastic so we’ll see! Start gravity 1.090. I have put glycerine in my... Read more ..read more

I bought a pack of the Aldi Jaffa flavour teabags. Personally I think there delicious contrary to what my girlfriend seems to think but would these work in a mead if I used majority of Jaffa tea water to fill a demijohn after I've mixed my honey etc My thinking is I don't want to maybe overdo the tannins although I'm not sure this wouldnt't matter to much over time. I could back sweeten and it would taste fantastic maybe .. I'm using the lalvin e1118 yeast again thing time as I have had... Read more ..read more

Quite a few recipes include chopped sultanas. Any tips on how to easily chop 1 Kg+? I've tried but they all stick together and mush up the knife. And I like to keep 5 fingers on each hand ! Maybe they don't have to be chopped? Thanks ..read more
